"Did you enjoy it?"

"No.I mean, if I'm honest, I don't really remember. Each time was when this feeling got too much for me."I press my hand against my stomach as if that actually describes what's going on within me."I got super drunk every time.Which I know is reckless and dumb, and I don't want to do it again."

"So you're trying to find an alternative now?"

"I guess I'm trying to find answers, even if I'm not sure what they are."

He nods."I hate to say it, but I don't have any for you.But I'll help in any way I can."

"Thanks, Darius.I mean that. This is the first time I've really talked about this."

"I'm glad I can help."

"Would you mind..."I trail off.

"Would I mind?"he prompts.

"Erm, are you free on Tuesday?"

He nods surprisingly quickly."What did you have in mind?"

"Dinner?I'm buying."Which sounds like a date now I'm asking out loud.Is that what I want?

"Sure."

"Thanks.I just need some time to think about things," I offer by way of explanation and in an attempt to make it seem less like I'm angling for a date. Not that I'd say no to that, even if it would make an already complicated situation more complicated.

"That sounds good to me."He offers me a warm smile.

"Great.Thanks.I mean it.Oh, and I got you these, I totally forgot."I dig into my bag and pull out the fancy pouch of chocolate raisins and hold it out to him.

"You really didn't have to."He takes the pouch and opens it, holding it out to me.

I take out a couple of chocolate raisins."I know, but I appreciated you sharing with me last week.I was feeling a bit dizzy because of needing to boost my magic, and it really helped."

"You're more than welcome."

We share a smile that makes me feel like there's finally someone who might understand me in the world. And I like that.I didn't even realise that I needed someone like that, but I'm glad that's changing now.

Darius

My phone lightsup and I check the screen, a smile coming to my face as I realise it's Mandy telling me she's at my front door.I jump up and hurry out of my room and down the corridor to let her in.

"Hey," she says brightly the moment I open it."I come with Chinese food, as promised."

"Hey," I respond."We can eat in the kitchen or in my room, whichever you want."Suddenly, I'm not so certain about suggesting my flat as being the location of our kind-of-date, it feels like it's going faster than either of us intends it to.

"Hmm, your room, maybe?I know I've got nothing to hide, but I still don't want to talk about some of the stuff we're going to with potential witnesses."

"That's fair."It makes a lot of sense, but doesn't stop me from feeling nervous about it.I gesture for her to follow me and lead her back to my room, pushing open the door and letting her slip inside.

"Ah, it looks exactly like mine."

I laugh."I assumed as much."I grab the mini desk I use when I want to sit on the bed to work and slide it underneath so we can use it as a table.

She puts the bag of food in the middle and kicks off her shoes, climbing onto the bed and crossing her legs to get comfy.
