He was about to callher, when his intercom sounded.

“Yes?”

“A doctor fromHope General is on the line. He said it’s about Ms. Gershom.”

“Put him on.”He told her tersely. He felt guilty because he’d been ignoringher.

“Nash, it’sSylvan.”

“What’sthe matter?”

“She was rushedhere via ambulance with a broken right leg. She has you as heremergency contact- “

“I am. How isshe?”

“The break wasclean, but she suffered some bruises and lacerations to her face andchest. She was asking for you.”

“I'll be rightthere.”

“I’llmeet you in front of the nurse’s station.”

Hanging up the phone,he stared across the room with a frown. He was torn. He wantedAllison to come to him tonight, but knew from the way he’dtreated her in the conference room, she was probably going to refuse.

Pushing back hischair, he went to grab his coat and headed out the door. “Cancelthe rest of my appointments.”

“Is Ms. Gershomgoing to be all right?”

“A broken legand several bruises. I’m heading to the hospital.”

“I’llarrange to have a bouquet of flowers sent to her room.”

“Thanks.”Shrugging into his jacket he headed for the door and out the hallway.Taking the elevator, he diverted towards the second floor and wentstraight to her office. The door was partially open and he wasrelieved to see that she was alone.

“I’m onmy way out, but I need to speak with you.”

Her head snapped upand he saw the glitter of temper in her dark brown eyes. “You’rethe boss.” Her voice was cool and impersonal.

Closing the door witha snap, he leaned against it. “That’s right, I am and Itold you that the way I deal with you can’t be personal. Whenwe’re here-“

“I’m amere employee. Got it. Now, how may I help you?”

“I have to goand visit someone in the hospital, but I was hoping to see youtonight.”

“I’mbusy.”

His mouth tightened.“You’re upset.”

“What gave itaway?”

“Look-“Dragging his hand from his pocket, he dragged it through hishair. “I’m not used to being with someone who works forme.”

“Got it. Isthere anything else?”

“I’mleaving for Europe in the morning-“

“Have a safetrip.” Looking down at the computer screen, she carried onworking as if he had already left.

“I need you.”He gritted, causing her to look up at him.
