Page 38 of Finding Answers For Confused Succubi
"Hey guys," the phoenix says."Hugo's just stealing my cheese, then I'm with you."
Evie snorts."Your cheese?"
"Sounds dodgy, doesn't it?"Hugo responds."But I've run out and have a real craving for mac 'n' cheese, so needs must."
"You're lucky I love you," Sera says as she pulls open the fridge and gets the cheese out, passing it to him."I'll let you out, Posey should be here in a minute."
I cock my head to the side as I watch the two of them interact, but don't say anything about it, even as they disappear out of the room.
"What's going on with you?"Evie asks.
"Something's changed between them."
She looks after the two phoenixes and frowns."I don't think so.They've seemed pretty normal to me."
I shrug."I'm probably oversensitive."
"Ah, your cupid not helping?"
I bite my lip and look down."Technically, no."
"Huh, no argument that he's notyourcupid?Interesting."
"Because I guess he is.We've sort of agreed to go on some dates. No sort of about it."
Evie lets out a small squeal."You have?"
I nod."Yes.We talked about it a few days ago.And then the other night we, erm, tried to do something to rectify my situation, but it didn't go very well."
"And that ended with the two of you agreeing to a date?"
I pour myself a glass of orange juice and nod."We agreed to the date first," I point out.
She takes a sip of her own drink."I liked him, by the way."
"Liked who?"Sera asks as she slips back into the room with her second best friend behind her.
"Hey, Posey," Evie says with a half-wave.
"Hey," the fairy responds, grabbing herself one of the glasses from the centre of the table and filling it with some of the wine she's brought.
"Mandy's new boyfriend," Evie responds.
"Oh, now you have to tell us everything," Sera says.
I smile at the other girl.I'm not really sure what our friendship level is.She lives with Evie, and we often hang out like this and go on nights out together, but we've never hung out alone.
I guess that does make us friends though.
"He's not really my boyfriend, he's just the guy I'm dating."
"I don't think there's a difference with how little you date," Evie says.
I roll my eyes, but don't correct her, mostly because I'm not really sure how to do that."Erm, so I had a problem that I needed to go to a cupid for help with, and it turned out to be this guy from my psychology group. We've been hanging out since and spending a lot of time together while he tries to help me, and now we're going on some dates."A smile comes to my face as I say it.
"I met him the other week after we cheered for the rugby team," Evie says."He's a sweet guy."
"He is," I agree."But..."I trail off, not really know if I should say what I'm thinking or not.I pick up my glass and take a sip to steady my nerves. It helps as a distraction, even without the alcohol.
