I had a feeling out of the three men, Ronan might have an idea about what tonight was all about. “I got it!” I squealed as the cork popped out, and I smiled at him over my shoulder. All while trying to hide the nerves and excitement I felt swirling and dancing inside my belly. I poured him a healthy glass and handed it to him. “Here you go.”
“What about you?” he asked, always trying to take care of me. “I can make you a cocktail or—
“Or you can go and sit and relax and tell me all about your day,” I cut him off and pulled one of the barstools out for him. Usually, I was the one sitting with a glass in my hand, but this was about me spoiling them.
“It was long,” he sighed, finally giving in and doing as I’d asked.
Even as I worked around the kitchen, I could feel his gaze on me. His dark eyes laser-focused on me while he told me about something one of his baseball players had done and the mess Carey had to clean up. Something about the guy being obsessed with the coach's daughter and running away with her so he could trick her into getting married. The whole thing sounded like something from a romance novels Coco and I loved to read.
Before, I used to read them to try and figure out what being in love felt like. Now I read them because despite having my very own happily ever after, they never get old.
Needless to say, the whole fiasco was why Fox and Carey were probably going to be home late. Just as I finished cooking dinner, they walked in. Instead of taking their suit jackets off and hanging them in the entry closet, they made it straight over to us.
Carey’s concerned gaze on me confused me for a split second. “Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You’re cooking,” he pointed out, and I could hear Ronan cough away his chuckled laugh.
“I cook.” I frowned.
“Babe?” His head tilted, and I felt my brows bunch together. Okay, maybe I didn’t cook all the time, but he made it sound like I never did.
“Thirsty?” I asked, turning to kiss his cheek. Which of course Carey allowed. He never pushed away any attempt of my affection even when I’d bratted off. None of my men did.
After hugging and kissing Carey, I made my way to Fox, who quietly watched me, only muttering hishey.
“Long day?” I asked despite knowing just how long it was. They grunted, and I nodded before serving each one their own favorite drink. A beer for Fox and two fingers of bourbon for Carey, then refilled Ronan’s wine glass.
“What’s the surprise?”
“How did—" My eyes drifted to Ronan, who had the decency to wince. “You told him?”
“Told us what?” Fox asked. His hair was still red, but it had a lot more blond and gray in it now than when I had first met him. It made him look sexier.
“I didn’t say anything. I just told them to hurry because you had a surprise for us.”
“Please tell me you didn’t go into the office dressed like that?” Carey muttered. I scowled at him before looking down at myself.
“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?” I asked, letting the subject change a little. I wasn’t ready just yet, to come clean.
“It’s tight.”
“Tight?” I repeated, unable to mask the sting of his words. My hands automatically moved to my stomach area. “In a bad way?” The question slipped past my lips, and I heard Carey curse under his breath.
“No, baby girl,” he rasped, but for some reason, I stepped back. “Serena?” He searched my eyes, and I felt a hand at my shoulder.
“You know you’re beautiful.” Fox’ lips were at my ear, and I turned to look at him and swallowed. A small pinprick of fear started to push its way up to the surface. Carey stepped forward, pulled me into his body, but I didn’t glance up beyond his chest.
What if I told them my surprise and they didn’t like it?
It wasn’t like we hadn’t talked about things.
A year after we became us, they had proposed, and a month later, we’d had a commitment ceremony. The four of us vowed our love to one another in front of our closest, most accepting friends and family. Legally, I had married Carey in City Hall with Ronan and Fox standing next to us.
After that, everything had been a blur. I’d gone back to law school and finally graduated. Then I’d had to take the bar twice but finally passed before jumping into work. I’d kept working for my guys until Coco and I decided we had enough experience to open up our own business. Of course, her guy and my men had been more than supportive of the idea.
They even got us office space in the same building.
