“No,” I laugh. “Definitely not. Don’t forget I need to put on an act for him, so maybe I’m just that good of a performer that it fools you too.”
“Alright, whatever you say Kyra,” says Nova before going to the other side of the bar.
I’m left dissecting my own thoughts, thinking that I should be more careful with how I’m talking to others about Zy. I’m not making it a secret that I like him but it’s vital others don’t think I’m into him. In order for this plan to go smoothly, I need to ensure I don’t attach myself emotionally to Zy.
Just then, the door to the tavern swings open behind me. My heart pounds as I spin around, seeing Zy’s large frame enter through the door. I wave a hand to him, catching his attention as a bright smile stretches from ear to ear.
Wow, he’s happy to see me!
Hanging his coat over mine, I wonder if he’s doing that to make sure I pick up his scent after tonight’s date. He then ambles over to me, opening his massive arms for a hug. A wave of heat overcomes me internally as we greet each other.
“How are you?” I ask.
“I’m great now that I’m here. What about you?”
“Good. How was work?”
“Oh you know, same old stuff. I had to show a couple of drunkards who was boss today.”
“I bet.”
“Hello Zy,” greets Nova, placing down two ales for us.
“Hello there Nova, hope all is well with you,” he replies as he takes the seat across from me. “Kyra…” he mutters, reaching a hand out to me.
“Yeah?” I whisper, feeling my heart flutter as he lays a hand on my face.
A studious look comes over his face as he runs his eyes over me.
“I must say, your skin is glowing more each and every time we meet up.”
Nova noticed that about me too!
“Well… I…”
Could it be that I’m getting too excited whenever he comes around? Calm it Kyra, you can’t lead him on too far.
“It’s my makeup,” I say loudly in a display of confidence.
“I like it, you're good at that makeup stuff,” he says before taking a drink. “Say, up for a game of darts?”
“Hmm, didn’t think you were in a losing mood tonight Zy.”
“Oh!” he retorts. “You’re on! Let’s go.”
I grab our drinks as we make our way to the back.
“It’s a shame no one else is here tonight. Maybe that’s a plus for you though, I’m sure you wouldn’t want anyone seeing you lose miserably.”
“Oh yeah? You talk some big talk for a small woman. I’ll show you how it’s done.”
“No thanks, I don’t need a tutorial on losing.”
Zy’s composure breaks as he roars in laughter.
“You’re a good trash talker. Come on then, put your money where your mouth is. Drinks are on me for the rest of the night.”
I pick up the first dart, shooting a look of bravado at him before flinging it to the dartboard. It bends at an angle midair, bouncing off the wall and falling to the floor.
