“You got it, kitty cat. This’ll be just between me and you.”

“Second, don’t call me that. My name is Vixen. Third, no romance. Meaning, no candles or roses or whatever the hell you might try. Are we good?”

He grins like I’ve said something funny, an amused gleam in his eyes.

Fuck! This is a mistake, isn’t it?!

I already know the answer as we turn and head out, Louis's large, warm hand landing on the small of my back. “We’re better than good. Tonight’s going to be one of the best nights you’ve ever had, Vixen. Just wait and see.”

“So I knocked his lights out,”Louis says with a deep-bellied laugh and shake of his head. He raises his glass of whiskey and takes a sip before slamming it down. “You should’ve seen the guy. He pissed his pants.”

My jaw drops, my own laugh unplanned. “You can’t be for real? You’re lying.”

“I swear on it. The guy had pee stains all over. It dribbled out his pants leg. Made a whole puddle on the floor. We made him clean it up too. Funniest shit I’ve seen all year.”

“Well, you’re a scary guy.” I aim a teasing smile at him from over the rim of my wine glass.

“That’s what they say. But as you can see, I’m not so bad.”

“You certainly kept your promise about wining and dining.”

We both glance around us. La Pergola is an empty sea of candlelit tables and chairs. No staff in sight except the few who have been ordered to stay behind for our late-night dinner. The fine Italian restaurant closed over four hours ago.

Louis meant it when he said he wanted to take me out to dinner. He’s been trying to impress me from the moment we sat down, making me laugh and ensuring everything is perfect.

So damn easy to wrap around my finger if I wanted to—Louis has a crush on me. He’s tried to play it cool for years, back when Gio and Falynn still lived in Vegas and he was still Gio’s righthand.

I’m a good read on men. I know them better than they know themselves.

Louis Civella is a hopeless romantic type who’s put me up on a pedestal.

He didn’t purchase me for the night for fun. This is more for him. After years of fantasizing, he’sfinallygoing for it.

If I wanted to, I could have him so pussy-whipped he wouldn’t know what the fuck hit him. I could get what I want out of him—money, like I want out of all men—then I could bounce and be on my way.

But Louis is a nice guy. He’s Gio’s and Falynn’s friend. He’s been good to me on multiple occasions.

So I’ll play nice too.

I’ll give him the best night of his life. Make the several grand he’s dropped worth it.

My face brightens with a flirty smile and I slip out of my heel, stretching my leg under the table. I let my bare foot tease its way up his shin. My gaze on his, I sip some more of my wine, a hungry spark in my eye.

Louis’s ears go red and he coughs, swallowing his whiskey. My smile only spreads wider.

Too easy.

“Why don’t you give me a tour of your penthouse?” I ask softly.

“Oh… oh! Uh. Okay. But… I kinda thought… I wanted to…”

“Hmmm?” I hum, gliding my ankle along his thick shin; it makes a tree stump feel weak.
