“Wow, Rose” was all he could think to say. “You look incredible.”

Her eyes darted away while a shy smile spread across her face. “Thank you.”

It made him grin. She was so charming. “You ready?”

She looked back at him, nodding. She stepped out and pulled the door closed, twisting her key in the lock before tucking it into the bag at her hip. Dylan offered her his arm, making her laugh while winding her own around it.

“Where to tonight?”

He brushed into her side as they descended the steps to where he’d parked his car. “Actually, I have dinner reservations for us at a local eatery. They had some wild stuff on the menu, and you struck me as the adventurous type.”

“Is this because I ordered that weird soup last time?”

He grinned, holding open the door to the passenger seat for her. “Partially.”

As she moved to slide inside, she said, “I knew that’d get me into trouble.”

He barked out a laugh, shutting the door behind her once she was all in. The iciness that had sunken into his chest from earlier was already starting to melt. Just simply being in Rose’s presence was enough to lighten up his mood a bit.

Getting around to his side, Dylan got back behind the wheel and buckled himself in. His knuckle tapped at the push-to-start before grabbing onto the stick shift. He turned to look at Rose, her eyes bouncing around the inside of the cab.

“This is such a nice car.”

He smiled. “Thanks. I’ll have to take you on a cruise with it sometime.”

Her eyes lit up. “Don’t promise me, or I’ll actually hold you to that.”

He laughed again and tapped on his radio, letting it play softly while he shifted the gears and took off toward the restaurant.

He drove them down the street, stopping at the light at the end. His heart nearly came out of his chest when Rose let out a loud gasp next to him.

His head snapped over to her immediately. “You all right?”

Her fingers immediately wrapped around the knob on his radio, cranking the volume. “I love this song!” she yelled over it.

He blinked at her asGod Save The Queenby the Sex Pistols blasted through his speakers.

“You like this kind of music?” he yelled back at her, vaguely aware of the light in front of them turning green.

“Hell, yeah!” She held up her hands and started mouthing the words.

He couldn’t help but stare at her. This blonde-haired, green-eyed bombshell that looked like she’d never spent more than a few hours a day outside of her academy office, let alone at a punk rock concert, was here jamming out in his car to raunchy lyrics condemning the Queen of England.

Practically yelling the lyrics over Johnny Rotten’s voice.

He couldn’t help but be completely mesmerized.

Whoisthis woman?

Behind them, the car blared its horn.

Rose laughed loudly, clutching her seat belt.

Dylan grinned and turned back in his seat, and gunned it.
