“Thank you,” Simon said and pulled her over to a rowof chairs. Hell, the chairs were more comfortable than any he’d ever experienced. He pulled her onto his lap. She wrapped her arms around the puppy and pressed herself against his chest.

“Why are you so scared?”

“I don’t like doctors,” she whispered.

“For one thing, I know you’ll like Alex. He’s very good with patients, especially littles.”

“He knows about us?” she asked.

“Yes, Baby. He has one of his own,” Simon told her. “And, there is no way anyone could pull me away from you. I’ll be there the whole time.”

She exhaled, rested against him, and closed her eyes.

“That’s good. Just rest.”

She wasn’t able to rest long because five minutes later, her name was called.

She jerked but stood next to him and took his hand. They followed Alex down a hallway and into a room.

Chapter Fifteen

Simon smiled at the cartoonish pictures and bright colors. It was a perfect room for children and littles. He loved the awe on her face as she looked around the room.

“It’s nice to see you again,” Alex said and shook his hand.

“You, too. Thank you for getting her in at the last minute.”

“Of course. If a little needs me, I’m there.”

Simon smiled. “This place is amazing.”

Alex looked around. “I’m thrilled with it. It was Raina’s idea to put in a room just for littles and children. I had a few of her friends come in to help design the room. One of them made the drawings on the walls, and several colored them.”

“It looks like professionals did it,” Simon said.

Alex nodded. “They are very talented.”

Simon grinned. “She was terrified when I first brought her in, but now she’s just enthralled.”

“That’s the way we want it,” Alex said. “My little one is around and can come in if you want her distracted.”

Simon looked over at Casey. “No, I think she’ll be okay. But she can be our backup plan.”

“I know how sensitive littles are,” Alex said and smiled.

Simon snorted. “That’s a fact.”

“Let’s start with her forehead, and then we’ll move to the other incisions. Is it okay if I give her a sucker? It is sugar-free and has a light sedative in it that helps calm them.”

“Sure. That sounds great.”

“I’m going to wait until I’m done with her forehead for you to put a gown on her. It’s colorful, too, and soft. Not like the paper ones we have in the other rooms.”

Simon grinned. “I’ve got to tell you, when I come to you, I want this room.”

Alex laughed. “You’re not the only daddy that has saidthat.” He pointed at Casey. “How about we get her into the seat with the cat first? We’ll have to get her onto the table for the rest, but I’m hoping she’ll feel calm by then.”

Simon nodded. “Casey, Baby, come here and meet Alex.”
