Page 57 of Run to Me
Before I even know what’s happening, Luca’s body is flung away from me, shouts echo around the room and I blink, trying to see if this is really happening.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing with your arms around my girl?” Enzo shouts. I can’t see his face, but whateverexpression he’s currently sporting must be bad because Luca suddenly becomes serious.
Luca’s hardened expression and tense shoulders clue me into the fact that this isn’t going to end well unless someone puts a stop to it. I glance around and spot Izzy watching the show from the kitchen counter—literally eating popcorn as she stands with her hip rested against the kitchen island, enjoying the show—she rolls her eyes and shrugs at me. Clearly, she’s no help.
“Jesus Enzo, relax. We were talking and she had a panic attack, I was only helping her calm down.”
Wrong thing to say, Luca.
If anything, that only makes Enzo even more mad. “What the fuck did you say to her to make her have a panic attack?”
Enzo doesn’t wait for a response as he pulls out a gun from the waistband in the back of his jeans and fires off a shot into the middle of the room away from us all. I scream in the midst of chaos, even though he didn’t shoot Luca, he shouldn’t be freaking firing off shots in the middle of their apartment.
“Hey!” Izzy shouts before she grabs some sort of knife from somewhere and throws it, landing it in the wall just besides Enzo’s head.
Okay, I think now is the time to stop this shit.
Enzo’s fists are clenched so tightly, his knuckles are white and he’s grinding his jaw so much it’ll be a miracle if he hasn’t cracked a tooth when I approach him. I walk over slowly, as if approaching a wounded animal when Luca tries stepping in my way.
“There’s no controlling him when he’s like this, maybe you should go and wait in another room with Izzy until he’s calmed down?” he murmurs, and I glare at him in response before walking around him.
Taking hold of both of Enzo’s hands, I slowly rub circles around his knuckles until they loosen, and I step up on my toes to kiss his jaw.
“Can we go home now?” I whisper.
“Yeah, angel,” he mutters. “Let’s go home.”
“We need to talk,” Enzo announces when we make it back to the apartment.
Why does he want to talk?
Obviously because now the threat is gone, you don’t need to stay here anymore.
Or has he gotten sick of me? I know he told me he loved me, but what if that was just because of everything that was happening at the time, and now that I’m not in any danger he’s realized that he doesn’t actually feel that way? Does he want me to go home? Does he want to keep seeing me? How the hell will I go back to life without this man in it? Does he—
“Relax, uccellina.I can hear your mind spiraling,” he coos before lifting me into his arms and sitting down on the couch with me in his lap.
He’s wearing different clothes than what he was in earlier, but I’m not going to ask why. He told me on the drive home that they wouldn’t be a problem anymore and that I’m safe, so I’m going to live peacefully with the fact that he did whatever he had to do.
“Where do you wanna go from here, angel? We can both move into your apartment, though it may be a bit small for the both of us. We could stay here, or we can move into my penthouse? We could even buy a new place together if you wanted to.”
That’s what he wanted to talk about?
“Anywhere,” I say.
“You need to choose angel, because I’m not living apart from you so you’re gonna have to pick a place for us to live.”
“I don’t care, I’ll live anywhere as long as I’m with you.”
He hums appreciatively. “How ‘bout we stay here for a while and if, in the future, we decide to move, then we can go wherever you like?”
“I like that idea,” I say with a smile before pressing my lips to his.
I like the idea of anything when it comes to him.
