“Griffin and I were talking last night about getting married. He told me he’s wanted to marry me since he first realized he was attracted to me. Like when he first got home from culinary school. I never even knew he had a crush on me for all that time.” Anya’s eyes glisten with unshed tears.
“I love him for you,” I tell her. “I think he would make a great husband.”
“Me too,” Emma says. “I know I only just met you and him, but you two really are perfect for one another.”
“Thank you,” Anya says, wiping away tears. “I never thought I’d ever fall for somebody so hard. Like it’s just like we click.”
I nod, knowing exactly what she means about clicking with someone. Last night with Brock, I felt like everything had finally clicked into place between us.
Who knows, maybe the reason we fought so much growing up was this energy between us that couldn't be contained. And now that we’re in each other’s orbit, it’s working for us.
However, I still like pushing his buttons. Especially like last night. I loved how he punished me. It was fun.
And it wasn’t like we sat down and planned how we were going to spice things up in the bedroom. It just happened.
Like we could read each other’s mind.
That’s silly, I know, but something’s happening here. I can’t get my mind off Brock.
“You look like you’re really thinking hard there, Willow,” Clara points out.
“I think I have a crush on my boyfriend,” I tell everyone at the table.
“Those are always the best crushes,” Shayne adds. “When Damien and I first got together I couldn't take my eyes off him. I was deliriously happy, and felt butterflies every time I laid eyes on him.”
I nod. “That’s how I feel.”
“I still feel that way with Ben,” Clara adds. “Like when he walks into a room my eyes light up.”
“Your whole face lights up,” Emma says. “And so does he. Ben loves you so much.”
“Axel loves you too. You should see how that man clocks your every movement,” Clara says.
“You all are so lucky,” I say, wishing I could find somebody who looks at me like that.
Brock only views me as a Vegas piece of ass. Somebody to pass the time with. It depresses me a little until Anya smiles at me.
“I’ve noticed the way Brock’s eyes shine when he’s staring at you, Willow. You should have seen him last night,” Anya says.
Hartford nods. “For real. He was all smiles when he saw you last night. That boy is whipped.”
Ha. As if.
However, I wonder if what they’re saying is true. Did Brock look at me in any certain way?
An hour later, I’m sitting by the pool, enjoying a Pina Colada. We're all out here—Hartford, Anya, Felicity, February, Emma, Clara, and Shayne—having fun and chatting away about the wedding that’s coming up.
I honestly can’t wait to watch Hartford walk down the aisle. She’s going to be a stunning bride, and I’m so excited to see her in her dress. Anya is already planning an elaborate toast, while Felicity and Emma are discussing the latest wedding trends they’ve read about. Clara is flipping through a bridal magazine, pointing out different flower arrangements, and Shayne and Hartford are debating the best songs for the reception playlist.
The guys are still playing golf while we bake in the Nevada sun. It’s not hot at all. In fact, it’s sort of perfect on this sunny October day. The gentle breeze keeps us cool, and the clear blue sky makes everything feel like a picture-perfect moment. We’re lounging on comfortable pool chairs, dipping our feet in the water, and occasionally taking a refreshing swim.
“I don’t think he’s whipped,” I say absentmindedly, recalling the conversation from brunch earlier, my mind conjuring up ideas of Brock using a whip to punish me. Oh my god. What has Brock done to me? I grab my phone from my little clutch.
“He’s totally whipped. Do you see the way he stares at Lake? All possessive and shit,” Hartford says. “I wouldn't be surprised if they fight before the end of the trip.”
“I would put money on it,” Anya says. “I know Brock. He doesn’t like to share. He’d never share with us growing up.”
“I guess growing up with that many brothers makes him not keen on sharing,” Felicity says. She looks glamorous with a big floppy sun hat, and a long see-through robe over her one-piece bathing suit. She told us she’s still carrying some of the baby weight from having August, but I think she looks amazing.
