Page 39 of Professor and the Seer

The robed being appeared before me, floating several inches off the floor, still covered head to toe. Why do you fear me?

“Because you’re spooky as fuck,” was the reply that slipped from me.

Fuck. A modern expletive that I’m not fond of. It isn’t befitting someone of your stature.

“Too fucking bad.” Another great response from me.

You should be more polite in my presence. Not to mention grateful.

“Why?”

You carry my blessing. Not an easy feat in my prison.

“Blessing?” I wrinkled my nose. “So you’re the reason my life is a living hell. Feel free to take it back.”

You don’t wish my gift?

“What I’d like is to be able to go out in public without feeling like I’m losing my mind.”

Only because you’ve yet to learn control.

“Why can’t you just take it back? Give it to someone else.”

No. You are one of my chosen. You should be thanking me.

“But I don’t want it.”

Unfortunate but unchangeable. The three were selected for a reason.

“Is that your way of saying deal with it?” I grumped.

You should be showing me more respect. A hint of irritation colored the statement.

“Respect is earned.”

I am a god.

“According to you. Seems to me more like you’re an escaped convict who needs to be put back in his prison.”

For what crime? An edge of annoyance laced the words.

“I’m sure you know why you were locked away.”

I am well aware of the why, and they will pay for it.

“Who?”

Come to me and all will be revealed.

“Sorry, but I’m kind of busy.”

I won’t be patient forever, prophetess.

“Then find someone else to order around.”

You are my disciple. It is your duty to obey.

I laughed. “Oh, buddy. My mother barely got us to listen. What makes you think you can make us?”
