And we put up with it because we want to win.

I just wish the gnawing sensation in my stomach wasn't so constant so I could actually focus on what Ishouldbe doing rather than what it feels like inside.

But I'm actively doing something about it, hopefully, it won't be too much of a problem after I've talked to Darius, though there's a good chance he won't know enough about any of it to actually help.

"All right, take a break, then fall into position for routine three. We're cheering for the basketball team next week and we need to be ready," Zara says.

"Eurgh, the basketball team are rubbish," Krissi mutters beside me."Why can't we cheer for the rugby team again?"

"You're just saying that because you want to ogle at your boyfriend for the whole match," Grace teases her.

I smother a laugh."At least they win."

"Exactly," Krissi says."Thank you, Mandy."

"I'm here anytime you want your boyfriend-ogling time defended," I respond.

"We should get some water before Zara yells at us for not being in the right position," Evie says, making all of us jump into action.Breaks are few and far between during practice, and it's better that we don't waste the ones we do get.

"I hope she's not going to run over today."I grab my bottle and down some of the water, already feeling the heat of the day.

"So you're not late for coffee?"Evie teases.

"That would suck."I want to say that it's because then I won't get the answers I'm looking for from Darius, but that isn't the truth. In reality, I just want to spend the time with him.

"I have to admit, you seem more open to this than I expected."

I shrug."I guess because it's not a stranger? We've been spending time together in study sessions and talking."

"Ah, yes, the raisins."

"I brought some for today," I admit."Don't tell Zara."

Evie lets out an amused laugh."So long as you don't say anything about the ice cream I had last night."

"All of your secrets are safe with me," I promise her.

"That's what friendship is for, right?"

"Mandy!Evie!Stop dawdling and get in formation!"Zara shouts in our direction.

"Time to get cheering," I say needlessly, heading over to my position on the outside of the routine.I'm sure Zara will be over it by the time the final routine for our competition, but for now I seem to be relegated to the edges.

It's probably a good thing until I figure out how to trust myself to do some of the tricks that could go wrong again, and I definitely don't want to be with the same team who almost dropped me before.

I push those thoughts aside and focus on moving my body in time with the others.I love the way it feels to cheer. It's almost like I can zone out while I'm moving and everything slips away until I can almost completely ignore the growing need to feed my succubus side, and the worries and confusion that are coming along with it.

And for a couple of hours, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Nine

Mandy

My heart speedsup a little as I approach Pixie Cups, though I'm not sure if it's because I'm nervous about the conversation to come, or because I'm looking forward to seeing Darius again.

Actually, Idothink I know.Especially considering he said that we didn't have to talk about the situation if I don't want to.If it was just about the cupid stuff, then I wouldn't feel like this.

I spot him as soon as I turn the corner to the coffee shop and wave, my heart starting to beat rapidly in response.
