She was fucking adorable when she ate.

Any time we shared a meal or I watched her eat, I got hard. The way she full-heartedly enjoyed her food made me think of how she would be in bed.

“Honestly, I still can’t believe you guys let me do that.”

“What? Read the contracts?” I asked. She nodded, wiping her mouth with a napkin she was holding beneath her plate. “Why?”

“I’m not actually qualified, Carey,” she answered quietly. I frowned. That was a technicality, and we all knew it here.

During the first week working for us, she was supposed to send a contract out to one of our players and had been curious about it. She told us she started to read and had caught a clause the team added last minute that our attorneys had missed. Something that could have cost us millions. After that, we’d had her look through each of our contracts because she seemed to enjoy it. About a month later, I found out she left law school right before graduating to help take care of her grandmother.

“We both know you’re qualified.” I bit into the chicken kabob and almost groaned at the full-bodied flavors that burst to life on my tongue.

“I don’t know about that.” She shrugged. “I didn’t graduate law school or pass the bar, Carey. I’m not an actual—"

“Not yet, you’re not,” I cut in. “I don’t like you putting yourself down. You can go back to school,” I encouraged.

Fuck, I would enroll her now if she asked.

But my girl would never think of asking. I would bet good money she’d chew her own arm off before she did something like that. And I couldn’t blame her. The way she had grown up, with only her grandmother to count on, she didn’t have a lot of experience depending on others. But soon enough, that would change. Soon, she would know she had us in her corner, ready to support her dreams and slay her dragons.

“Yeah.” She smiled almost wistfully. “One day.” She took another bite of food and moaned. The sound shot straight through me. I knew without a doubt, when I got back to my penthouse apartment tonight, that little sound alone would keep me up way too late.

“Thanks again for this.” She bit into her food again, and I nodded, taking a bite of the food I had served myself.

We ate together in comfortable silence. In the rare moments it was just the two of us, it always felt like there wasn’t a huge need for a lot of words between us. I tried to steer my mind away from the dirty thoughts that seemed to pile up in my head. Dark and sinister. Shit, if she knew, caught a glimpse of it, she’d run away and never look back.

I want her.

I wanted to watch her do unspeakable things to Ronan and Fox before I finally had her. Her gaze rose, and my heart squeezed. Her dark eyes sparkled with happiness and satisfaction.Much like she will look at you again, but for a whole other reason,a voice in my head whispered with promise.

“I’m stuffed,” she sighed happily, setting her plate on the coffee table before staring up at me.

Stuffed. That’s exactly how I wanted to see her. Stuffed completely between the three of us. I stretched my neck. The tension caused to my muscles tighten. Sitting next to her for the last thirty minutes, her thigh pressed against mine, already had my body buzzing.

Anticipation stacked high.

“I still can’t believe you did this for me.” Her pretty face tilted slightly, and my eyes dipped from her warm gaze to her mouth to that little beauty mark. That small dark spot beckoned for all my attention.

“Anything for you, Serena,” I promised and frowned, “You know that, don’t you?”

“There you go.” Her lips quirked upward. “Being all sweet.”

“Don’t tell anyone.” I playfully and gently bumped my arm with hers. “It’ll mess up my rep.” She laughed softly, and I found myself leaning closer. Her hooded gaze dropped to my mouth then came back to my eyes.

“You ordered all my favorites.” Was it just me or had her voice dropped lower?

“I did.” My teeth mashed together, and I willed my hands to stay at my side.

“Did Ronan help you?” she asked, knowing me all too well.

“Maybe.” I shrugged because I was incapable of lying to her. “But it was my idea.”

“And that’s what counts.” She breathed in and exhaled slowly. Her eyes sought mine, and for a moment, I forgot myself.

All that existed was her.

Serena and the way she made me feel.
