It seemed likely then she was on it. “How did Astaroth know to set the trap?”

“Your ordinance spied.”

“I barely had it active since I got here.”

“In your case, it didn’t matter. Elyon had it emitting almost constantly. I blocked as much as I could, but some bits did escape.”

Constantly? Meaning Elyon might know everything and even been privy to his intimate moments. The thought sickened. “And he knows I had it removed.”

“Not exactly. I’ve kept the HALOs active by getting them to emit false reports.”

“Hold on, the HALO can still broadcast?”

“Yes.”

“Brilliant idea to keep Elyon unknowing.”

“It will only last until he reaches out for contact and no one replies.”

“Can’t you fabricate an answer?”

A pause occurred before her reply. “I could, but Elyon will most likely notice.”

“Is there a way to patch it through to me so I can handle it?”

He got a more eager reply. “Yes. So long as you’re aboard, I can make it so that your communication happens seamlessly.”

“Good. Now, you’re confident your shielding and cloaking will work?”

Pleasure suffused Zilla and spilled over to him. “I have more than that. I’m armed, now that Atlantis and Noah helped me. They said it wasn’t fair that we were unable to defend ourselves. So I now have a way of attacking.”

“And you’re okay with that?”

“Hell’s scouts have been killing arks for a long time. It would be retribution to finally do the same back.”

Who knew a cantorii, or should he say an ark, would want revenge?

“Back to Francesca, is it possible the token you’re sensing is a decoy?” While Zilla had assured him they couldn’t remove the token, Metatron remained wary of the technology Hell might use to trick them. Could be they would block Francesca’s signal while creating a matching one that would lure them to the wrong location. “Perhaps Astaroth took her to another lair here on Earth.”

“I’ve been seeking dead spots in my surveillance. None are appearing on the surface.”

“It could be underground.” They’d previously busted his castle and then his volcano location, but the demon prince likely had a multitude of hiding places.

“Or in the water.”

He rubbed his face. “Of which there’s too much to cover quickly.” Meaning he had to make a choice soon because, no matter the consequence to himself, he wouldn’t leave Francesca a prisoner.

Before he could come to a decision, Zilla shuddered.

“Is something wrong?”

She whispered, a strange thing given she spoke in his head. “Heaven’s just exited the spiral arm of the galaxy.”

The news rocked him. Elyon had threatened to punish, but Metatron never actually believed he’d bring Heaven this close to Hell.

“What is he thinking?” he muttered while knowing the answer. Elyon wanted to smite those questioning his orders. Petty, but then again, that was God.

“Atlantis is departing!” Zilla sounded almost panicked. “He is beaming aboard random humans to fill the empty berths and preparing to leave.”
