“What I want to do is strip and explore every inch of your body.”

My hands stilled on the sash I’d just finished tying. Every inch of me flushed, and I almost screamed YES. Instead, I focused on his reason for coming to see me in the first place. “Were you serious about finding the president and getting her to listen?”

“Diplomacy through proper channels is taking too long. It’s time we took more drastic measures.”

“Ambushing the president could get you shot and killed.”

“Only if I’m caught.” Spoken with a grin.

Be still my heart. Tron had a dimple. I almost climbed onto his lap to kiss it.

I turned away so I could think. “We’ll need to track her movements and find a time to beam when she’s less likely to be heavily guarded.” I glanced at the ceiling, even though Zilla technically inhabited the entire room. “Can you start watching the president of the United States?”

“Already begun.”

“Thanks, Zilla.”

Tron eyed me oddly. “You were talking to the cantorii.”

“Yup.” I cocked my head a moment as Zilla imparted some info, which I related. “She says you can, too, if you get rid of the HALO.”

His lips pinched. “I would like nothing more, but I can’t. Not yet.”

“Afraid your God will get mad?”

“Oh, he’s already very angry, but removing the HALO means cutting off contact. I need to maintain it as long as I can for information.”

“What kind of info? You worried Heaven’s going to come smite your butt for disobeying?”

“Maybe. Elyon has a vengeful side.”

“So much for being the God of forgiveness,” I uttered as I whirled and caught an eyeful of naked male perfection.

Tron had risen from the bed to stretch. “He takes those who oppose his laws very seriously.”

“And do you oppose them?” I asked.

“Very. But until now, I’ve not been able to do anything about it.”

“Why not?”

“Because everything answers to Elyon. Angels. Arks. Cantorii. How can you ferment a rebellion when everyone is either too afraid or unable to show allegiance?”

The honesty in his answer struck me. “You want to rebel?”

“I already have, and Elyon caught me. It’s why I was sent on what should have been an endless voyage, only we found Eden. A planet with so much possibility.”

“I don’t understand, if you wanted to get away from your God, why didn’t you disconnect the moment you left? Why tell him about Earth?”

“It’s hard to hide when you have a spy aboard relaying everything.” He rolled his shoulders. “Jesus reported to Elyon.”

“And he’s dead now. So why keep chatting?”

“Because Elyon already knows about your planet. He wants it destroyed.”

“Why would he do that? I thought we were a treasure chest of souls.”

“He fears you.”
