I poked him in the rib cage. “You bought her a puppy and didn’t consider talking to me about it first?”
He took my hands and gently squeezed them in his. “You don’t need to know everything. I just wanted to surprise her.”
“You’re going to spoil her, you know.”
“She’s my daughter, I don’t care if she gets spoiled.” He turned to me and gave me a soft smile. “You’re both my girls, and I’m going to spoil you both like crazy.”
I kissed him softly on the lips. “We’re going to spoil you too,” I said.
“Mm-hm, can’t wait. Let me show you the rest of the house.” We strolled back into the house and made our way to the stairs. “There’s one more thing you should know.”
My stomach bubbled with anticipation. “What is it?”
“This is yours and Kaity’s home now. We’re going to live here as a family from now on.”
I smiled, and my cheeks blushed. “We’re not exactly a family, we aren’t married.”
I thought I heard him mutter something like,I intend to change that soon. But he didn’t elaborate, which made me think it was just a figment of my imagination. I didn’t mind. It was quite embarrassing, but I’d dreamed more about Damien than was normal.
I’d spent three years trying to catch my brother’s killer, and many years hating Damien and being a mother to our daughter. I’d never had a chance to think about marriage, and now that I did, I couldn’t control myself.
I wanted to claim this man with the Russian accent, his azure-blue eyes, and his dangerous smile.
I wanted him to be all mine…and Kaithy’s.
“Are you sure about that, Damien?” I asked.
“What the hell, Roza! You and Kaity are mine. I'll never let you go again. You two are my life now, my world.” He cupped my cheeks, and his touch sent a hot shiver down my spine. Christ!
I placed my hand over his on my cheeks and bit my bottom lips as my stomach flipped at his touch. “We will move in.”
“You don’t have a choice.” He smiled sheepishly and we walked onto the large upper terrace. “I’ll be gone for a while though. I have business to take care of and I have to go to Russia to see how the family business is doing.”
My pulse slowed. “How long will you be away for?”
“Not too long. A week, or two maybe. I’ll try to get back as soon as possible. I can’t afford to stay away long, because now I have a family to come home to.” He pulled me to him, grazed my lips, and then kissed me slowly, tenderly, and filled with passion.
My heart stumbled over a beat and a warm glow rose through my chest. Family. Ever Since the shit with Kendrick, I knew Damien would always protect us, even if he weren’t around, his men would.
Speaking of Kendric, he’d been given three life sentences, and if he got out, he would be nothing more than a fossil.
As for The Circle, Damien had closed the New York business. He said it was too dangerous to operate the business in the same state where his family lives. He promised to do only legitimate business in New York.
I leaned against the stone-walled terrace railing, closed my eyes, and breathed in the peace that was in the air. This is my favorite part of the mansion.
“This is my favorite part of the house.”
I looked at Damien leaning next to me. “Are you a mind reader or do we just like the same things?”
His eyes lit up and he smiled. “Oh, I know we like the same things, Roza."
“Why do you like it out here?”
“It gives me a chance to be alone without the loneliness that comes with it,” he answered. “When I’m here, I can think more clearly and appreciate life more. When I see the city lights, I feel like I can conquer the world.”
Damien had a hand in his pocket, took it out slowly, and let his hand slide between my hands. I looked down and my gaze landed on a ring between his fingers. Warmth flooded through me, my heart began to race, and my stomach somersaulted a thousand times.
“I am not a poet, moya roza. But I knew from the moment I saw you again that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I’m an asshole, but you’ll have to put up with me for life. I’m obsessed with you and Kaity, and I’ll love you every single day of my life and never hurt you again.”
