“Kaity..." I whispered, looking around for Kaity. My heart sank into my stomach and panic covered me like a wet blanket in winter. “Where is my daughter?”

One of the teachers turned to me. She smiled at first, but the smile disappeared when she noticed the panic in my expression. “Good afternoon, Ms. West.”

I didn’t respond to her greeting. My chest was too constricted for formality. “Where is my daughter?” I asked again, assuming she hadn’t heard me the first time.

“She's at the playground. Her uncle came in a little while ago for a visit. Tall, blue-eyed, and dark-haired..." Pink colored her pale cheeks. “I thought he was..." Her eyes widened with realization.

Right! That’s the reaction I was expecting. How the hell could he enter the school? But that shouldn't surprise me, Damien did what he wanted, there were no rules for him.

My hands grew clammy around my purse and my legs threatened to give way as I staggered out of the classroom and ran to the playground. “Kaity!” An anxious cry escaped me.

“Mom!”

My heart sank further as I looked in the direction of Kaity’s voice. Damien was kneeling in front of her, smiling at her as they talked. Two men in black suits stood behind Damien.

As if that wouldn't scare a little kid!

Damien’s smile was gentle, and his eyes softened as he spoke with Kaity.

This can’t be happening!

My thoughts were blown away as I ran over and took Kaity in my arms.

“Is everything okay, Mommy?” she asked, looking at Damien.

I looked at Kaity and gently stroked her hair. “It’s all right, baby. It’s all right.” I turned my attention to Damien and glared at him. “Don’t you ever come near my daughter again. I’m warning you.”

Damien’s gaze didn’t leave Kaity for a second. When he finally did, he stared at me, a dark cloud obscuring his expression, and his baritone voice sounded even deeper.

“She’s my daughter, isn’t she?”

Chapter Fifteen

Damien

As I watched Rosanne tuck Kaity into her bed, my heart ached at the thought of what I had missed all these years. And Rosanne, damn it, she was so beautiful and a great, loving mother. My cock started to twitch as I watched her, she had no idea how much I missed her.

When I found out Kaity was my daughter, I forced Rosanne to let me drive her home. There was no fucking way I was going to let her get away again. A shiver ran down my spine as I thought of how she and Kaity could have been attacked, and I wouldn’t be there to save them.

And I needed answers!

My mind raced and I paced furiously in the living room while I waited for Rosanne to come back. When she came in, I could sense that she was nervous. Good, she should be, because she had some explaining to do.

I gave her a blank look and paused. She looked around anxiously to avoid me, and all I could think about was how much I wanted to feel her again.

But my anger flared. "Damn it, Rosanne! Couldn't you have told me sooner? What the hell were you thinking, keeping her from me?"

Her voice trembled. "I couldn't, Damien."

I gritted my teeth and forced myself not to choke her throat. "I deserved to know, Rosanne. She’s, my daughter!"

"I was too scared!" Her voice trembled.

I scoffed, stepping closer to her, and fixing her with my eyes. "Are you kidding me, Roza?"

Her eyes filled with tears, and she grew more agitated.

"Don't call me that, Damien." She raised her hands and drove into my chest as her words spilled out, over and over.
