“Yeah because if not for him, I would never have met you.”

“Hmm, I guess you’re right. Clubs were never really my scene in the first place.”

“Still though, screw Calix, don’t get me wrong,” laughs Isla. “To think I ever wanted to return to the clubs in the first place… But this? This is better than anything I could have imagined.”

“Truly. Despite the luxurious life I had, I always felt out of place in it. I think you and I needed each other as the key piece to this. I never would have left Orthani if not for you.”

“I’ll always remember this waterfall as a symbol of our newfound life together,” remarks Isla in a reflective tone.

The birds burst into song again, giving me an idea. I rise to my feet and take Isla with me.

“Show me a move or two.”

She laughs and enwraps herself in my grip, placing my hands on her waist. She shows me how to sway and swivel my hips, matching my movement with hers as we dance to the tune of the birds. My inexperience is apparent as I stumble a few times but I don’t mind. Hearing her laughter makes it all so worth it.

I spin her around as she twirls on her toes. Taking advantage of the distraction, I take a box from my pockets and get down on one knee.

“And that’s how you-”

She throws a hand over her mouth in shock. Her eyes are already welling as I begin to speak.

“Isla,” I say with a smile. “You have single handedly changed my life. You are someone I want around for the rest of my life, and I promise to continue being your protector forever. The only thing I ask for is your hand in marriage. Will you be my mate?”

“Yes!” she cries. I slip a diamond ring onto her hand, the jewel glowing in the ambience of the night. I pull her in for a kiss, feeling the love grow more between us.

ISLA

My life is amazing. Coming here to Vhoig was perhaps the boldest of moves I’ve ever taken in my life. I was scared, but I stuck it through and forged a special life with my love.

Just when I thought things couldn’t have possibly gotten any better, it threw another swerve at me. The love of my life took me out the other night to a very special place down by the waterfall and proposed to me.

Now the big day has come, and the day’s activities are buzzing with excitement. Aiken and I decided that there’d be no better place to hold the ceremony than at the waterfall itself, given its symbolic importance as a beacon of our newfound life together.

It is early afternoon now as I ride in the carriage to the waterfall. Aiken rented it out for the day and has been especially eager to make sure everything goes right for us. Even now, his leg bounces up and down as he glances out the window.

“Aiken,” I say, gently taking his hand. “Take a minute to breathe, my dear. Everything is going just fine so you have no need to worry.”

“Hmm,” he chuckles, shifting his gaze to me. “I suppose you’re right. I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong today.”

“The ceremony hasn’t even started yet and I’m already having the best day of my life,” I tell him in a reassuring tone.

“It’s just that you deserve to have the very best, Isla.”

I squeeze his hand, then rub circles on his palm.

“That’s why I have you.”

He smiles, running his eyes over me.

“You look magnificent,” he remarks.

I wear a long white dress. The silhouette is layered with thin, see-through fabric that becomes opaque when laid on top of each other. The hemline waves up and down in its finished design.

My waist is shown off by a neatly trimmed fabric designed to hug my skin but loosens up around my chest area. Floral designs are dotted align the neckline which has been cut to display some of my decolletage. Straps fall down my shoulders.

My sleeves stop just before the bend at my elbow. Aiken went all out for me, personally choosing this dress.
