“Keep the change,” I tell her.
“Thank you, handsome.”
Kyra winks at Nova before the latter resumes her duties.
“Are you two working together in conspiracy against me?” I laugh.
“Oh totally. You’re going to wake up tomorrow with no organs.”
I slap my knees in amusement, roaring a hearty laugh. As I wipe a tear from my eye, my vision comes to rest on Kyra. I couldn’t guess what it was that brought me so much luck tonight but one thing I knew for sure; this gorgeous woman and I truly connected on a level I’ve never experienced before.
“So big city boy, I must say that you’re incredibly noble for coming out here to protect the streets from lowlife scum.”
“Oh please,” I quip. “I do it all to keep the people safe.”
“To be serious for a moment, I think you really are a brave man,” she says, her eyes full of illustrious wonder.
“Come on,” I say, waving my hand.
“No, I mean it. You’re out here in this big city by yourself and you’re just trying to make ends meet. I admire that. Sure, I’ve got a friend in Nova over there but I’m just trying to survive too.”
“Well then you and I are perhaps more alike than one would think. You’re an interesting woman Kyra, it’s refreshing to see a human doing well for themselves. I’m glad we ran into each other tonight.”
I raise my pint in the air, causing her to return the gesture.
“To us,” I rejoice.
We spend the next few hours recounting old stories to one another, ranting about the assholes that live in Karona and connecting over the similarities in our lives. A couple of rounds later, the time comes for the tavern to close up shop. Nova comes over, taking our empty drinks from us.
“Time to head home lovebirds,” she chuckles.
We head out into the pitch black night. There flows through the air a biting wind, causing us to pull our coats closer to our bodies. Facing Kyra, our eyes lock in an intense smile. The only thing between us is our warm breaths flickering from our mouths.
“So, are you headed home?” I ask.
“Yeah, it’s super late so I best get to bed.”
“Can I walk you home?”
She smiles and casts a gaze at her feet. Flicking her hair back, she fixates it behind her ear then runs her fingers down, twirling the ends between them. Biting her lower lip, she giggles.
“Another night, okay?” she says with a glimmer in her eyes.
“Does that mean I’ll get to see you again?” I ask.
She steps closer, motioning for me to bend down.
“Of course handsome, now come here.”
Kyra stands on her toes, planting a soft kiss on my cheeks. They impart a soft feeling on my skin, its warmth spreading over the rest of my face as she retracts back. As I rub my cheek, she keeps her eyes hooked on mine as she takes a few steps back.
Within them, there’s a magnetic attraction that almost pulls me forward to join her. Smiling, she waves goodbye then spins around on her heels, breaking forward into a march home. Words alone cannot describe how much I’m looking forward to our next meeting.

KYRA
Sneaking out has been getting easier. I didn’t think Mosar would be quite so oblivious but lucky for me, he’s been none the wiser about my late-night excursions. Honestly, if I wasn’t so scared of him, it would be downright laughable.
