Page 55 of Risky Behavior: Submitting to the Ruthless Guard
“What is it?”
“My men lost track of them up near Whitefalls Mountain. Do you know where that is?”
“Fuck.”
“I was afraid of that.”
“If you send me the address, I can send some people your way.”
“It’s okay. We can handle it from here. Thank you for letting me know.”
The line went dead, and I took a deep breath, trying to center myself as Talia sang softly in the shower. Then I called my brother. It was an ‘us against them’ situation and I needed his help.
“What?”
“They found us.”
“Who?”
“The fuckers Carter hired. I just got a call from Mario. He has men on the mountain, but they lost them.”
“How did they know we were here?”
“Mario’s men just followed the two fuckers that are after Talia. My perimeter alarms are on and nothing has tripped yet, but they have to be getting close.”
“Get her over here. We’ll put her and Ayden in the panic room and go hunting.”
Noah hung up, and I cleaned up as best I could before throwing on a pair of camo pants and a light green shirt with my boots. I strapped knives to me and stored guns in places I knew I could easily reach. When I grabbed my laptop to pull up the security cameras we had around the mountain, Talia walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. The blood drained from her face the second she saw me.
“I need you to get dressed, love. We are heading to Noah’s.”
“Why? What’s going on?”
“They found us. Now move quickly.”
Tears flooded her eyes, but she moved to the closet and pulled clothes on quickly as I moved out of our room and reached for the keys to my truck. The path looked clear between here and Noah’s and I could only hope we’d make it there in time to get the girls to safety before these two assholes descended on our peaceful patch of Whitefalls Mountain.
Found
Talia
Leowasrightaboutone thing, Noah’s place looked more like a fancy custom home than it did a comfy cabin. He pushed me up the stairs and through the front door, catching me as I tripped while entering. I nodded and reached for my soda. Exhaustion was creeping in. Between the emotional toll of the memories I was forced to relive earlier and the fear of being found, my body and mind were close to shutting down. The only thing keeping me going was knowing that Leo was still out there. I just needed to stay awake long enough to see that he was okay.
“What took you so long?”
A man equal in size and shape to Leo stood in the kitchen. His facial features were nearly identical to the man I stood with, except he had black war paint smeared across his face and an automatic weapon with rounds of ammunition hanging from his chest. He was dressed just like Leo, but he had a glimmer of excitement in his eye that left me unsettled.
“Noah, take all that off while you are in the house.” A kind-looking woman walked down the hallway towards us and reached for my hand. “Hi, I’m Ayden.”
“Time for introductions later. You two need to get to the basement.”
Ayden shook her head slightly and walked over to the monster-looking man, reaching up to place a kiss on his lips. If I hadn’t seen it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it. His entire demeanor softened as he pulled her to his body. By the time he let her go, the black paint he had on him covered her face as well. She wiped at as she pulled him down to her level and whispered something into his ear that made a familiar-sounding growl come from deep inside him.
“He’s…”
“My asshole twin. Talia, meet Noah, the chaos twin.”
I smiled over at him but made no effort to move in his direction, which seemed to be fine with Leo.
