“Me, reckless? She’s sleeping with a demon!”

“I can’t have you running off and speaking to people when we’re together, Siara.”

“What?” I turn to him, frowning. “Why not?”

“Come,” he motions as he turns to walk away from them. I follow him and feel embarrassed. What have I done wrong this time? “I have always taken a more…” he pauses. “Aggressive stance on the notion of human and demon relationships.”

“Seems a little hypocritical,” I comment, crossing my arms. My defense mechanisms are coming out again.

“Yes, it is.” He exhales slowly. “Which is why I’ve kept my time with you secretive.”

“That’s flattering.”

“I have a kingdom to look after, Siara,” he snaps. “I have demons that look up to me. There are rules here, and we can’t run around doing anything we want.”

“But you can because you’re the King?”

My throat gets tight, and I clench my jaw. My fists ball up, and I try to breathe deeply. I feel I’m being taken advantage of, hidden from the world. Is he that ashamed of me?

“I have been spending much time with you. you’re correct.” I look at him, surprised that he’s getting vulnerable. “And I can’t tell you why I have been. The weeks have passed, and we’ve fallen into each other somehow.”

My fists unclench, and my jaw muscles relax. Hope returns to me as I wonder if he has also been developing feelings for me. I look at his hand by the side of his robes and gulp as I think of doing something that could potentially land me in a perilous situation.

I slowly reach out and intertwine my fingers with his. My chest vibrates as I observe his body language. His body stiffens for a moment before his fingers wrap around mine, and he puts pressure on my hand.

“Come with me.” His hood turns to me. “I want to show you something.”

His voice is low and quiet as he leads me back toward the castle. I wonder if I shouldn’t have interlaced my fingers with his, but I don’t pull away. I might be a stupid, naïve human for holding onto him, but his touch is too exciting to let go.

He leads me to his bedroom, holding my hand the whole way. His grip is tight but gentle, and my heart races as we enter his chambers. He turns to Drar'ran and asks him to bring us dinner in his room tonight.

My nerves are tingling. Why does he want to have dinner in his room? Did I mess up? Is he going to take my soul? Fuck. I always go too far.

I hear him exhale as he walks around his room, fidgeting with his fingers. He looks around quickly at the walls and ceiling, and I follow his gaze, noticing nothing interesting where he is glancing. What is he doing?

Finally, he faces and sighs. He holds his hands out, and I walk to him and place mine in his, my heart about to explode.

“You must promise not to scream,” he asks quietly.

“I promise,” I reply softly with my eyes wide and mouth slightly open.

“And you will speak of this to no one.”

“I promise.”

His fingers pull away from mine, and my arms drop to my sides. He lowers his head and pushes back his hood with his hands. The first thing I see are two black horns curling outward from his long, wavy hair. I breathe in slowly, preparing myself for what I’m about to see.

He tips his head upward and looks at me dead-on. I don’t want to scream or run. I don’t want to leave him. I don’t see anything that would scare me. I forget to breathe as I look at him, my heart leaping into my throat at the raw, masculine beauty of his face. I hardly even think about the fact that I’m the first person ever to see the full face of the Demon King.

ASMODEUS

She hasn’t run yet, and I wonder how much I can reveal to her before she does. Deciding to experiment, I undo the armor over my robes and take them both off. I stand before her, looking into her eyes in only my undershirt and pants.

Looking at her without my hood, I can see all her details. Her long, black hair has strands that fall gently over her shoulder. Her green eyes sparkle in the lights of my bedroom, and her curves drive me crazier than before.

She’s seen the scars on my face, my horns, my hair, and my pitch-black eyes. One of those elements alone would be enough to frighten a human, but she doesn’t move.
