Page 78 of Dark Gambit: The Play

When a loud crack sounded, pulling her out of her euphoric trip, her eyes flew open, and she had a brief moment of panic as a bedpost came crashing down on her, but it never made contact.

Somehow, in a blink of an eye, she found herself under Eric, protected from the crushing bedposts.

They must have bounced off him because he started pounding into her as if nothing was wrong and as if he hadn't just climaxed seconds ago, and then she was orgasming again and again until it became too much, and her soul left her body, floating up onto a cloud where it was so peaceful and beautiful that she felt like crying from relief.

All the stress, all the pains from her past, all her insecurities and her doubts had evaporated, and she was whole, just a speck of light that was so full of love it could illuminate the universe.

The cloud she hitched a ride on was traveling fast, passing alien landscapes that were populated with all kinds of creatures, all aware of her passing above them, some smiling up at her, some waving, some pointing as they tapped their children on the shoulder to get them to look at her.

It was the best experience of her life, and she felt contented to stay in that space forever and never come back, but something in the back of her mind, the mind she'd left behind in her body on Earth, was whispering to her that this was just a brief visit, a glimpse into a bigger reality she hadn't been aware of while living inside the limiting filter of her body, and that at some point she had to come back to those who loved her and who would miss her if she were to leave now.

Just a little longer, she thought at that awareness.Don't send me back yet.

The awareness flooded her with warmth, communicating that there was no rush, and that she could float for long hours until she had her fill.

I will never tire of this.

You will come again, the awareness communicated through warmth. And when it is your time, you will come to stay.

ERIC

"Do you need help?" Max asked from the doorway.

"Stay out," Eric hissed. "I've got it."

"Don't be an idiot. You might have broken your back, and you are squashing Darlene. Let me lift the bedposts and unlock the restraints."

Max's words managed to penetrate through the crazed haze that had overpowered him when the guy had bitten Darlene.

Eric hadn't been thinking straight when he'd pulled on the chains and brought the massive posts down. Thankfully, he'd had enough presence of mind to pull Darlene under him, so they wouldn't crash into her. But now, he was on top of her, and with the added weight of the posts, he must be crushing her.

The pain had started to register as well. Did he have broken ribs?

Lifting on his forearms, Eric relieved Darlene of some of the weight and turned to look at the Guardian. "Fine. But leave after you unlock the restraints."

Max smirked. "I should wait for later to say this, but I can't. I told you so."

He started on Eric's left wrist. "I can't lift the posts without freeing you first because the chains are still attached to them on one end and to you on the other."

"Got it." Eric gritted his teeth as the need to attack Max assailed him again. "Those damn immortal instincts are such a nuisance."

"I know. I told you so."

If this one time didn't do the trick, he didn't think he could go through it again. Not after experiencing it. If he hadn't been chained to the bed, he might have tried to kill Max. The Guardian wasn't a foe easy to overcome, he was immortal, and Eric didn't have fangs and venom yet, so he couldn't have killed him even in his crazed state, but he would have inflicted pain on a friend who'd just been trying to help.

Yeah, right. As if Max didn't enjoy biting Darlene.

Don't go there, idiot.

When Max was done freeing Eric, he carried the clanking bundle of chains out of the room, and by the sound of it, dropped it on the hallway floor.

He returned to lift one of the bedposts and carried it outside the room as well. "It's good that the mattress is sitting on its own support, or it would have crashed to the floor as well. This bed is going to the dumpster." He lifted the next one and carried it out too.

When he was done with the fourth one, he looked at the floor. "Don't let Darlene walk barefoot here before we vacuum the place. The floor is covered with wood chips."

"Got it. Can you leave now, so I can assess the damage?"
