As he walked out the door, Kian placed the call.
The phone rang for quite a while before the god answered. "Good afternoon. I hope you're calling to tell me that the parts for the Perfect Match machines have finally arrived.”
"I wish, but no. Nothing’s changed in regard to that. I'm calling because I need to discuss an urgent matter with you. Is it okay if I come over?"
"Of course."
"I'm on my way. I'll be there in five minutes."
"Can you fill me in while you walk?"
He could give Toven the rundown and keep the asking for when he got there. "We have a situation at Safe Haven."
By the time Kian had finished telling Toven the high points, he was at the god's front door.
"Come in." Toven motioned for him to follow.
"Hello, Kian," Mia said. "I hope you don't mind me eavesdropping on your conversation with Toven." She wheeled herself to the dining table.
"Not at all."
He'd expected that and hadn't thought it was a problem. Toven would have told Mia everything anyway.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Toven asked.
"Thank you, but I've already downed a bottle of Snake's Venom, and I still have a long night ahead of me."
"I guess that you want me to override the compulsion." Toven motioned for him to take a seat and pulled out a chair for himself.
Kian nodded. "Kalugal tried to do it via a video call, and it didn't work. You can attempt to do the same, but Turner thinks that you need to be face-to-face with Sofia to be able to do it. Since the guy is holding Jade captive, and Emmett claims that she's a very strong compeller in her own right, we must assume that her captor is incredibly powerful."
"Are you flying her over here?" Mia asked.
"I don't want to risk it. I'm flying Julian there with a full-scale MRI machine to check her for implanted trackers. He'll do that at Safe Haven, and if she has any, he'll remove them. After that, he and a couple of Guardians will drive her to a safe house that Turner is arranging. And that's why I'm here. I came to ask you to fly out there with the team and meet her at the safe house."
"When?" Toven asked.
"Tonight. Julian and the Guardians are packing up the MRI as we speak, and once they have it loaded on the truck, they are heading to the airstrip. If you can be ready to leave in an hour or so, you can join them there and fly with them. If you need more time, I can fly you out there separately on the small jet."
Instead of answering him, Toven turned to Mia. "How quickly can you get ready?"
"If you help me pack, I can be ready in ten minutes."
That was a development that Kian hadn't expected. He could understand Toven not wanting to be separated from his mate, but her safety should come first. Toven was proposing to take her with him to a situation that might be a little dangerous.
Seeing his puzzled expression, Toven smiled and took Mia's hand. "You should never play poker, Kian. Your face is too expressive."
"Well, in that case, I was wondering why you want to take Mia with you. You're only going to be gone for one night, and although I'm doing everything I can to mitigate any risks, this trip is not entirely risk-free."
Smiling, Toven lifted Mia's hand to his lips and brushed them over her knuckles. "I'm a god, and as long as I'm awake, no one can get to Mia with me shielding her. I can freeze the minds of any would-be attackers. Still, I wouldn't have inconvenienced my mate with an overnight rush trip if I didn't think that I would need her help. Mia is an enhancer, and I might need the boosting of power she can provide me with."
Kian doubted that Toven needed the boost, and given the grin on Mia's face, he'd said that to make her happy.
So far, no one had asked Mia to boost their power for anything other than testing, and she was probably anxious to try her enhancing powers in a real-life situation.
"It's up to you both." He looked at Mia. "You might have to pull an all-nighter. Are you up to it?"
She squared her shoulders. "I'm an immortal now, and I can survive just fine with four hours of sleep. I'll nap on the way."
