Page 24 of Dark Gambit: The Play

"My name is Sofia Heikkinen."

Toven looked at Marcel. "Is that the name she's registered under?"

Marcel nodded.

Toven leveled his gaze at Sofia. "How old are you?"

"Twenty-seven."

Marcel nodded to confirm.

"Did you study at the University of Helsinki for the past seven years?"

"Almost eight. I study languages."

"That's nice. Did you go home often?"

She nodded. "Once a month."

"Was home far away from the university?"

"Yes."

"Did you fly home?"

"No."

"Did you take the bus?"

"No."

"Did you drive?"

"Yes."

"How long did it take you to drive?"

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. "I can't say."

"Was it longer than two hours?"

"Yes."

"Longer than four?"

"Yes."

"Longer than eight?"

"No."

Toven smiled. "We are making progress, and I didn't even use compulsion yet. Tell me why you came to Safe Haven," he commanded.

This time, Marcel could feel the compulsion reverberating in his voice.

"I was sent to observe and report."

Marcel let out a relieved breath. She'd answered Toven's question, which meant that his compulsion could override her compeller's.
