Tarnley pulls back and rests his forehead against mine, our collected breathing ragged.

“You knew I was coming, vamp!” Rainey calls out again.

“You did?”

He nods. “She may have mentioned a girls-only movie night earlier.”

“Oh?” I tilt my head to the side and study his frustration. “I guess I should get up then.” I grind up, pressing right against his erection, and he groans.

“Must you torture me, woman?”

“I really, really must.” I lean up until our lips are a breath apart. “I’ll be right there, Rainey!”

“Yeah, yeah, but if you two start having sex, I’m coming in to break it up. We’ve got plans.”

Her footsteps carry her down the hall, and I kiss my fiancée again. “You planning to stay up for me?”

“I could be convinced to read.”

“Oh?”

He kisses me again then blurs us both up. “Go have fun. I’ll be here when you get back.”

When I turn away, he slaps me on the ass before climbing back into bed and watching as I pull on a pair of leggings beneath my baggy sleep shirt. After pulling open the door, I turn back to him. “I’m really happy.”

He grins, the sight of it making me reconsider leaving this room—ever. “I am, too.”

It takes all my self-restraint to step into the hall and shut the door gently behind me. Rainey and Delaney are waiting for me at the end of the hall, both grinning wickedly.

“I want to see!” Delaney exclaims, rushing forward.

“Del, you were supposed to let her tell us,” Rainey scolds, with a roll of her eyes. “But, yeah, I want to see, too.”

I hold out my hand, and Del grabs it, studying the ring beneath the hallway light. “It’s so gorgeous.”

“It’s perfect,” Rainey adds with a soft smile. “You look happy.”

“I am. So happy.”

The three of us grin at each other for a few moments before Rainey turns toward the stairs. “And to think, less than two months ago, you were trying to kill us.”

Delaney snorts. “Really, Rainey?”

“She’s not wrong,” I add as I follow them down the steps and into the living room. “Woah, who did you have to threaten to get the house emptied?”

“Everyone,” Rainey replies. “But we needed this. Del and I used to have movie nights all the time, and we figured we should invite a few more into our inner girls’-night-only circle.”

“Oh?”

She pauses in front of the closed slider doors separating the rest of the house from the living room. With a grin, she glances back at me. “Oh, yeah.” And throws the doors open.

“Surprise!”

I jump, the collective noise much, much louder than I expected. As soon as I realize it’s not a threat, my eyes fill with tears, and I press both hands to my heart. Inside, the living room is filled with women and decorated, top to bottom, with banners and balloons.

Eira, Deissy, Winnie, Willa, Rachel, Paloma, Bella, and a bunch of female supernaturals I don’t recognize, are standing just inside the room, some wearing party hats, others just with wide smiles as they clap.

Banners that readCongratulationsandWe’re excited for baby!are hung on three of the four walls while pink, blue, yellow, green, and purple balloons cover the floor.
