“No. No. No. You can’t die. The people…they need you—” He presses a finger to my lips, silencing me.
“I’m not going anywhere just yet, and there’s no sense in worrying about what may or may not happen.”
“She could be wrong?”
He doesn’t answer me. “Let’s get some sleep, Ember. The storm will pass, and we are about a day from the nearest village. There, we should be able to get some help.” He moves back and sits against the cavern wall.
Shoulders slumped, he stares out at the storm.
“What did she show you?” I ask, needing to know.
He swallows hard. “My body being eaten by flames.”
