Page 46 of Playing with the Boss
I glance to my right and take stock of what he was doing when I interrupted. His laptop is packed up, the cables coiled on top. His paperwork fills the satchel he brought with him.
“You’re leaving.”
He nods. “I planned to come say something to you before I did.”
“Something” wouldn’t have been enough, though. My gut coils at the thought of losing this love I’ve so recently found.
Because I do love him, in a lust-fuelled, new way. He’s sparked something inside of me, and I can’t shake the feeling that given time to connect beyond the physical, we’d be amazing together.
“For how long? What happens to us, then?”
He squeezes my hands in his own. “Let’s face the facts: long distance would never work. It would be a four-hour plane trip, maybe twice a month—one weekend each. The costs would add up.”
“And you know I can’t afford to do that.” I counter. Damn the truth hurts.
He shakes his head, moving his hands to slide his arms around my waist. “Which is why I have a proposal for you.”
“I’m listening.”
Mason rests his forehead against my own, gently nuzzling my nose with his. “I can’t explain why just yet, but I know that all I want is you there when I get home every night.” He lifts a hand and grazes my lips with his thumb. “I want your smile the first thing I see every day. I want you with me, Lisa.” He whispers the words that cement how I feel about him. “If you’d let me, I want to sell my place back east and buy something here. Something for us.”
Silly, silly man. I take his face in my hands and kiss him like I did the night we met, raw and with all the passion he incites within me. He returns the favor tenfold, growling into my mouth as he guides us to the wall and cages me with his large, muscular body.
My breaths come short and fast as I pull away and look him in the eye. “Tell me one thing.”
“Anything.”
“Could you say that, even after barely a week of knowing each other, you love me?”
He smiles, the sight enough to make me fight back tears. “The day I saw you Cupid laughed because he knew he’d found the right fool for you, Lisa. The moment you crossed that dance floor and spoke those first words to me, it was his arrow straight to my heart.” He pauses, my stomach doing fluttery flip-flops while I wait for his next words. “I love you. Why? I don’t know. I just know that you’re someone worth keeping, baby—my someone—and I want to keep you forever.”
I kiss him again, yet this time our union is accompanied by a tangle of limbs as he palms my breast through my blouse. I reach between our bodies to cup his growing erection in my palm, giving his balls a slight squeeze through the restriction of his slacks. He moans into my mouth, grinding into my hand as I feel my panties soak for the second time today.
Maybe the way we met was unconventional. Maybe it broke all the rules of what you should do, but regardless, I know without a shred of doubt that this man is the one worth turning my life upside down for.
“Don’t leave until I come back, okay?” I push against his chest gently to urge him to let me go.
He backs away, lips swollen from my kiss, cock swollen from the stolen moment. “Where are you going?”
“Just stay here and do whatever you had to, okay?”
Because I’m about to do either the most romantic, or the stupidest thing in my life.
Only time will tell.
