My eyes widen as he rips the hearing aids straight out of my ears, leaving me with only four out of five senses. Before I have the chance to steal them back, he chucks them at Heath.

His lips move, and I try to read his words while my heart begins to race in my throat.

“Run and I’ll catch you.

Fight and I’ll win.

Beg … and maybe I’ll show mercy.”

He lifts three fingers and counts down.

“Three. Two. One.”

Then he nods at Heath … and the lights are all switched off with a single push of a button.

Pitch-black darkness.

Total silence.

All that’s left inside me is fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.

And I choose to flight.

CHAPTER 27

Silas

There isnothing that excites me more than the thrill of the fucking chase.

She dared me to play a game of cat and mouse in class… and now the chase is finally on.

I can hear her feet skid on the wooden floor as she dashes out of the room and into the hallway, and the wicked grin returns to my face.

Fuck yes, now this is what gets me going.

“What now?” Max asks like he’s desperate to prove himself.

I can hear her downstairs, darting across the hallways, jerking every door she can find. Pottery is thrown over as she bumps into all the tables, cabinets, and chairs. Even without a scream, I can hear her agitation as I slowly make my way downstairs, listening to every sound she makes.

“Let’s go catch us a sneaky, voyeuristic little thief,” I say.

Heath’s lip curls into a half smile. “Give her a head start. Five seconds.”

“Fuck that. She got enough of my time already by watching me shower and sneaking up on us while we made our kill,” I retort and march past him.

“And you’re going to help us catch her,” Heath tells Max.

A devious grin spreads on my face as my heart races with excitement. “Time to make her pay.”

Ivy

My heartnearly beats out of my chest from the adrenaline coursing through my veins.

There’s no light, no sound, and now I’m being chased by three monsters in disguise.

Demonic fuckers.

I move through the rooms, but it’s damn hard like this.
