I can’t help the smile that stretches over my face.

What are we doing next weekend?

Birthday surprise. I know, I know. It’s a little early. But I wanted to do it before J and G’s wedding.

Also, when should I expect you tonight?

Most nights, I stay at Tripp’s. At this point, I have a toothbrush and an entire section in the medicine cabinet.

And the closet.

Andhis dressers.

I thought it might be weird since he hasn’t initiated anything sexually between us, but it’s nice to fall asleep in his arms without any expectations.

I feel safe.

Wanted.

When are you off work?

I can leave early today, around five. There’s a new Julia Roberts movie out on Netflix. I added it to the watchlist.

This man.

Sounds great. I’ll come over around six with Chinese. :)

“Where are we going? How am I supposed to know what to pack?” Balancing my phone on my shoulder, I frantically search my clothing racks for my favorite little black dress. Tripp will be showing up within the hour, and I held off packing anything in hopes he’d give in and tell me where he’s taking me.

Secretly though, I love that he hasn’t told me. And by the looks of it, he doesn’t plan to. What hedidtell me is that it’s a quick two-day trip.

“You’re probably scouring your room right now for your little black dress, aren’t you?” I canhearhim smirking through the phone. “Moment of truth. Ginny snuck in yesterday while you were at the restaurant and packed everything you’ll need.”

“That sneaky bitch,” I exclaim, twirling around with a hand on my hip to try and figure out what she packed.

Tripp’s laugh on the other end of the line is full and warm, sending tingles down my spine to the tips of my toes, like stepping in front of a fire after you’ve been outside in the cold air for hours. “I can’t wait to whisk you away, even if it’s just for the weekend.”

His voice is full of promises—long nights between the sheets and endless orgasms. He’s slowly been working his way up to sleeping together again. A simple caress that turns into him rubbing me to completion over my pants. Cuddling while watchinga movie that ends up with his head between my thighs.

Tripp has been focusing entirely on making me feel good and hasn’t even attempted to get me to give him a hand job, blow job, or have actual sex. And while being with a man who is all about your pleasure is great, I miss the way he bites his lip when he comes and the way he looks at me with so much purpose, like he’s trying desperately not to close his eyes and miss a second of us being together.

Curling a lock of hair around my finger, I lean on the doorframe and tell him, “I’m happy we're going away, Tripp. It will be nice to have a little calm before all the crazy the next few weeks have in store.”

Ginny and Jackson’s wedding is next weekend, and Emily’s is two weeks later. Then, if Margo has anything to say about it, Tripp and I will be right behind them.

“Me too, Viv. I’m about to leave the office. I’m going to run home and pick up our bags, then I’ll be there to get you.”

“Sounds good. See you soon.”

As the driver pulls up to the airport, I turn to Tripp with wide eyes and a grin that makes my lips hurt. “We’re flying somewhere?”

He takes in my face with his own handsomesmile, reaching over to cup my neck and pull me closer before kissing me softly. “It’s still a surprise.”

“How will you keep it a surprise once we’ve checked in?” I bolt from the car with eagerness, bouncing from one foot to the other while Tripp gets our bags. They are both small enough to carry on, meaning we won’t have to check anything or wait around for luggage when we get to our destination.

“I’ve already checked us in, and as soon as we’re on the other side of TSA, you are getting blindfolded.” He chuckles smoothly. “Our plane is already boarding.”

“Already boarding? Won’t going through security take a while?”
