Fucking wonderful.

Chapter Fifty-Two

Robyn

“He really doesn’t like leaving you, huh?” Izzy says once the door closes behind Enzo.

And considering she just had to put a gun to his head to get him out of the door, I think she already has her answer. It’s a good thing I’m used to this family’s antics by now, or I’d be running away screaming.

“Doesn’t like leaving me? More like doesn’t like letting me out of his sight,” I say, though I stare at the door, internally screaming for him to come back.

I may not like how much he’s been hovering over me constantly, but I’ll admit I don’t really like being away from him either. After everything that’s happened, I feel safer when he’s around.

“That right there,” Izzy says and waves towards my face, “ain’t healthy. We need to get you out of this goddamn apartment for a little while. You can’t keep yourself trapped in here with only your husband around for company. You need a distraction, so get dressed, sis. I’d rather take you shooting or something equally fun, but you went and got yourself knocked up, so we’ll have to settle for something a little less exciting. Good thing I have an errand to run, chop chop.”

I know from experience that these Romano’s won’t take no for an answer, and I guess it’ll do me good to get out of the apartment for a little while. With a huff, I leave and go and get ready before meeting her back in the living room.

“Ready?” she asks.

“Yup.”

“Great. Let’s go.”

Izzy doesn’t bother to tell me where we’re going, just drags me into a car with a driver waiting.

Honestly, it still feels so freaking weird having a driver. I’m used to walking, taking a cab or the subway, not having a personal chauffeur.

She lounges in the seat next to mine, typing on her phone with her lips curling up into a small smirk, no doubt texting Luca. I’m about to ask her again where we’re going when the car pulls to a stop outside of a building with the nameCane Securityon the side.

Guess we’re going to see Alec.

The driver gets out and opens our door, offering the both of us a hand to get out. Izzy declines but I accept his help. I may only be around four months pregnant, but sometime in the last few weeksI seemed to have popped, and now my back is killing me as well as having mildly bruised ribs.

We take an elevator up to the top floor—which is a stark difference to the lobby. The entrance is modern and sleek, with black, white and grey covering the walls, desk and floor. Not another color in sight.

Izzy bypasses the receptionist, much to her dismay as she calls after us. I shoot her an apologetic smile before scurrying after my sister-in-law as she leads us into a corner office.

“Good afternoon, Mr Cane,” Izzy says sweetly as we head inside to find a scowling Alec sitting behind his desk. He looks between us and his lips twitch as he tries to maintain his sour demeanor before he gives up all together.

“Ladies,” he says with a grin. “To what do I owe the pleasure? And are you here without your shadows? Because you know they’ll be itching to behead me if they find you here.” He rolls his eyes, clearly not too bothered about Luca and Enzo finding us here.

Izzy takes a seat opposite and lifts her feet onto the desk while I sit on the armchair adjacent to the desk.

“I’ve been testing you,” Izzy says with a smirk and Alec huffs out a breath. She digs into her bag and pulls out a pile of papers.

“My, my, Alec. You do search for some filthy stuff on that computer of yours.”

He grabs the papers and starts flicking through the pile, his jaw ticking as he does so.

“Why the fuck do you have my porn search history?” he asks, and I choke on a laugh as Izzy inspects her nails.

“I was bored,” she deadpans. “You need better software so I’m here to help you,” she says sweetly while Alecs hands tighten around the pages. “You need someone good with computers to improve your software. No worries, I won’t charge you.”

“I’m confused, shouldn’t you have better security on your computer since you literally work in security?” I muse aloud.

Surely, he would be good at this shit, right?

Izzy barks out a laugh while he glares at me. “What did she promise you to get you to say that?”
