“Hey, I’m your nurse on call today, it’s nice to meet you Mrs. Ro…” She trails off as she reads my name on the paper before her head snaps up to look at us. Or more accurately, her eyes flit over me before she settles her gaze on Marco.
Her face drains of color as she stares at him, her gaze flicking between the clipboard in her hand, me and Marco.
“I… um, I…” She’s saved from attempting to say whatever it was she was going to say when the bathroom door opens, and Enzo strolls out freshly showered. When he sees whatever the hell is going on he stops abruptly and looks over at each of us, his gaze resting a little longer on Marco which makes me turn to look at him too, only to find his complexion as white as the nurse’s.
Something is happening, though I have no freaking idea what.
Is this the concussion? Am I losing it?
“Sorry, I’ll be back in a moment,” the nurse squeaks before bolting from the room, leaving the three of us in confused silence. Or maybe that’s just me, judging by Enzo’s reaction.
“Dude!” he bursts and waves his arms towards Marco who still sits frozen staring towards the door, seeming shell shocked.
“Marco,” Enzo barks, which pulls him out of his stupor as his head swivels towards Enzo but remains silent.
My husband lets out an exasperated breath. “Fucking go!” he exclaims, and Marco shoots up from the chair and runs out of the door.
Me and Enzo both stare at the empty doorway for a moment before I turn to him.
“What the hell just happened?”
“That was my brother getting a second chance,” he says with a smirk.
Chapter Fifty-One
Enzo
Istare down at Robyn as she sleeps in my arms. She got out of the hospital a week ago, and I’ve been putting off dealing with her brother because I haven’t wanted to leave her side, but I don’t want to leave it much longer.
My other reservation is that I need to talk to her about the fact I need to deal with him. She hasn’t asked about Jeremy or Lia since everything happened, and I think she knows on some level what has to happen, or maybe she thinks it’s already happened, I don’t know.
All I know is I can’t leave this apartment to kill her brother without talking to her first.
And I also can’t leave her alone because I’ll be stressed as fuck the whole time that I’m at the warehouse.
I grab my phone from the nightstand and send a text to Izzy.
Might need you to come stay with Robyn later.
Izzy
Lil bro… your wife doesn’t need a fucking babysitter.
Ineed to know that she’s okay, please sis.
Izzy
Ugh, fine.
Aww, I knew you loved me!
I shut my phone off and run my fingers through Robyn’s hair. She had a small cut on her hairline that’s healed well, and she hasn’t had any headaches or any other symptoms from her concussion since she left the hospital, though her ribs are still a little sore.
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna die of blue balls if they don’t heal up soon, but I’d prefer that to hurting her. I’ve never felt so off balance than I have the last eleven days—seeing my girl hurt and in pain is a sight I never want to see again.
I let out a sigh before climbing out of bed and heading for the kitchen. Normally, I’d stay in bed with Robyn until she woke up, but if I did that today I’d be too easily distracted, and I’d convince myself that everything else could wait just so I could spend the day in bed with her.
She must have sensed I wasn’t in bed beside her, because I’m only halfway through drinking my coffee when she strolls into the kitchen in her little sleep shorts and tank top, wiping her eyes. Another thing that’s happened over the last week is her stomach has started to grow. We woke up on Tuesday morning and she just seemed to have popped, and now you can actually see my baby growing inside her, it’s fucking surreal and I’m so goddamn lucky. If anyone had told me last year that I’d be marriedwith a baby on the way, I’d have fucking pissed myself laughing before gutting them.
