Chance snorted.

There was no denying both his kids took after their father with his attitude. And worse, their adopted babies did, too. Isla was fast becoming a mirror image of Rage’s Eddie.

Rooster shuddered. The world was not ready for a second Eddie.

“Keep me updated around Kendara. We’ll talk tomorrow,” Chance mumbled and disconnected the phone just as there was an indignant shriek from a child.

“Good luck,” Rooster said, recognising the tone of the scream. He’d heard it often enough from his own kids. It was a war cry, and one he was glad to avoid!

Chapter Two.

Rooster

He’d left the hospital late last night and had to be up early for his appointment with Janet. Luckily Rooster had managed to avoid the old ladies and congratulated himself on ducking their fussing.

Mac and Casey had disappeared to see Kendara once a nurse had assured that Kendara was in a private room. Mac was arranging security in the form of Rage MC prospects.

Lio had caught up with them at the hospital and had reassured Mac that Kendara’s accident was being taken seriously too. Lio had informed them that traffic cameras and cameras around Spearfish were being looked at to potentially track the white truck.

Phil Gold, Lio’s partner, was also alerting local garages to check if a motor was brought in needing body work. They surmised, by the condition ofKendara’s BMW, that the vehicle would need fixing up.

Now, Rooster felt rather amused when he found himself parking in the hospital car park on the way back from his appointment with Janet. Why he was bothering to check on her, he wasn’t sure, but Rooster was compelled to see how Kendara was doing this morning. It was probably because she was linked to Rage MC, and Rage and Hellfire were tightly tied.

Rooster marched through the hospital corridors, heading for the lift, which took him to Kendara’s floor.

Outside Kendara’s door he noticed Tye and Harley appeared tired, but both guarded the private room Kendara was staying in. He tilted his head in acknowledgment to the prospects and before opening Kendara’s door and stepping inside.

Kendara peered up as he entered and looked surprised when she saw him. Her mouth opened in an ‘oh’, and then she closed it abruptly.

“Wow, you actually exist,” Kendara said, sounding shocked.

“Did you think I was a figment of your imagination?” Rooster asked, approaching the bed and studying her carefully.

Rooster didn’t like how pale she was, and he also noted the slight shake in her hands as they laid on the bed. A bandage covered the left-hand side of her face, hiding the deep cut that had been next to her hairline.

“Are you okay? Do you need me to fetch a nurse?” Rooster asked, concerned.

“No, I’m managing at the pain at the moment, thanks. So, I’m guessing you know I was involved in an accident. And I think you’re the person who pulled me from the car. Please correct me if I am wrong.”

“No, you’re right. I did indeed pull you out. You were unconscious when I cut you free,” Rooster replied.

“In that case, thank you for saving my life. I hear my motor caught fire soon after the impact. I kind of thought I was imagining you, so it’s nice to realise that I hadn’t.”

“Well, as you can see, I do exist,” Rooster replied, chuckling.

“Glad to know I wasn’t hallucinating or suffering delusions due to brain damage,” Kendara said with a sheepish smile.

“No, definitely neither of those two.”

“What brings you here today?” Kendara asked.

“Truthfully, I was just passing and wondered how you were coping. When you pull someone from a wreck, you kinda feel responsible for them.”

Kendara lifted an eyebrow at Rooster. “So, it wasn’t my winning personality that made you come back?”

Rooster smiled slightly at Kendara’s words. “’Fraid not. But I am pleased to see you’re awake and responsive,” Rooster shot back with a nod as he took a seat.

“Did you see what happened? I don’t remember much, and I’ve been told not to worry about it. But I’d like to be informed how I got here, and pleasedon’t pull a Mac. I’m a big girl and can handle any shit that comes my way.”
