“I’m going home to my woman,” Rooster said and headed for the room where they cleaned themselves up.

“Lucky man,” Shotgun whispered, and Tiny nodded in agreement.

Chapter Twelve.

Rooster

Kenny was asleep in his bed when he arrived home. Rooster hadn’t realised how late it was, and the house was silent. He spotted the wigs on their stands and hoped Kenny was happy with them. His poor girl had been through the mill. Rooster shut the door and checked on the boys. He stifled a laugh when he saw Brax’s bald head.

Kenny had texted and let him know what his youngest son had done. Rooster had to admire Brax’s loyalty to Kenny.

He picked up a few things and headed for Kenny’s room. Rooster would much rather share a bed with Kenny, but he wasn’t one hundred per cent there yet. But he would be soon. Kenny was special, and she’d never look at him with disgust. He was certain of it.

“The boys know where they’re meant to be, babe. Don’t let them fool you,” Rooster said as I tucked into bacon and eggs.

“Are they supervised?” I asked worriedly.

If they weren’t, they needed to be.

“Diesel and Sunny will have them today. Apparently, , they’re scrubbing something with toothbrushes,” Rooster said with a grin.

“Wow, the punishments keep coming,” I drawled with a laugh.

“Yeah. The boys need to realise just how dangerous their actions were. And they could have killed someone. However, the outcome was they badly hurt you, and even though it’s been a week, you’re not back to normal yet,” Rooster stated.

“I’m not disagreeing,” I said quickly.

“I know. But I wanted you to understand where the club was coming from. We don’t take what they did lightly, and the punishment needs to fit the crime.”

“Talking to a lawyer, honey, I completely agree.”

“What have you got planned for today? Are the old ladies visiting?” Rooster asked.

“Rooster, I can be left alone. I am an adult,” I teased.

“A wounded adult who’s suffered hell. Why don’t you take advantage of the weather and use the pool today?”

“Not a bad idea. Iced tea and a good book and some sun sounds great.”

“Don’t let anybody see that body other than me,” Rooster said, turning and kissing me. He broke it off quicker than I wanted because a clatter of footsteps meant the boys were coming.

The kids weren’t happy with another day’s punishment, but Rooster promised them a picnic in the Hills if they behaved for a few more days. This clearly indicated something good because they shut up, ate breakfast, and disappeared before I knew it.

“So, a picnic is the solution to getting them to behave?”

“We go to some falls where they can jump off and swim. The area’s pretty safe and they love going. We take a boat and visit a nearby lake. It’s a great day for active boys,” Rooster explained as I nodded.

“Not you?”

“Big hard to dive with the bionic leg. The weight would drag me down,” Rooster said.

“So, remove it. Do you have crutches? Use them to go to the top of the waterfall and dive off,” I suggested.

Rooster looked unsure.

“Who gives a fuck, Rooster, what others think? Nobody matters but us,” I spat and then felt unsure.
