Page 64 of Elling & Jackie
Chapter 25
The Slag members stoodfrom the table in the meeting room. Elling pushed back his chair and headed toward the doorway. With the Feds gone and apparently concentrating on Brikken Motorcycle Club, they needed to go forward with their plan to hit Bantorus MC hard.
They had yet to hear of any retribution from their harassment on Brikken.
"Elling...wait up." Brage's hand gripped his shoulder, stopping him. "Roar needs the officers for a bit longer."
Since coming back to stay at the clubhouse, he'd spent all his time doing maintenance on his motorcycle, including putting in a new starter, afraid the old one was corroded. He couldn't afford to have a non-working ride if he needed to make a fast exit.
When the others left the room, leaving only Roar, Brage, Marcus, Peer, Viktor, and Rune, Elling sat back down at the table. It was hard for him to sit and do nothing when his life seemed to have sunk deeper since leaving Jacqueline.
"We have three days until we hit Bantorus. Elling, I need you to find out what you can about Bull Ramchett, Bantorus's President. See if he takes after his father and runs a tight club. I want to know which members are living behind Cactus Cove in the cabins and what kind of security they have in the bar after closing. No matter the importance of the details, I want a report." Roar closed the file in front of him. "I'd like the information tomorrow. Can you put in a long night?"
He nodded and stood. "Not a problem."
Walking to the door, he'd received his job until it was time to ride to Pitnam. It would keep his mind busy.
"Is everything tied up with the woman from the hotel?" asked Roar before Elling could escape the room.
He turned around. "Ja."
"You'll let me know if the situation changes?"
"It's over..." He gritted his teeth, saying no more, and walked out of the meeting room without telling Roar his opinion about what he thought about breaking it off with Jacqueline.
Climbing the stairs, he went up to his room and flipped on the light. Pushing the power button on the computer, he sat down and waited for the programs to fully load. He was the only one within Slag that had access to the background checks and knew the people to contact to find out more about their enemies.
Some of the younger members had taken an interest in helping out. They were skilled with computers and using the different backdoors and erasers, making it impossible to be traced. But, having the information after it was found became a liability. One he signed on for when pledging to Slag.
While he waited to get in the right frame of mind, he typed Jacqueline Stanton into the crack of the Federal database. He had no idea what he was expecting but considering who her father and brothers were, he'd find something.
A witness report. A visit to the state prison. A speeding ticket.
He scrolled through the list of names. No Jacqueline Stanton. Nothing.
There were several listings with the last name of Stanton but no Jacqueline or Jackie. Surprising, considering her whole twenty-four years, some relative of hers had been in prison. Records showed she had never signed her name on the registry as a visitor on visitation day.
Though in the educational department, she had records for going to public school in Tacoma. Not wasting time trying to hack into her school records, he cleared the screen and started at the bottom with a search for Bull Ramchett.
There was no use learning more about Jacqueline. She was out of his life.
He had to let her go.
A knock interrupted him staring at the screen. "Ja?" he shouted.
The door opened. He looked over his shoulder. Roar strode toward him.
"While you're looking, try to figure out if Bantorus has any scheduled activities. I've heard rumors that there's an underground boxing ring taking place in Idaho under Slade Ramchett."
Elling snorted. "Boxing?"
"Ja."
He never could understand the fascination with the American sport. Hell, he remembered when Norway finally allowed boxing to be televised.
"Supposedly, Slade worked his way up the ranks back when I was a kid. Maybe Bull takes after his dad. If that's the case, see if he travels to Federal to partake. I'm looking for any kind of opening that'll put less Bantorus members in Pitnam."
Elling jotted down the info on his tablet. "Anything else?"
