The little boy barely acknowledges me before disappearing into one of the rooms with his older sister.

“Has Hicks shown you you’re room yet?”

“I was… just getting to that part,” Joshua says.

Keelan smiles, assessing me. And as he does, I really wish I would’ve dressed a little better now that I’m here. Jeans and a t-shirt just tend to be my normal everyday attire–especially since I work with kids.

My teen sister Courtney told me I looked like a hobo when I left the house this morning. She tends to say the first thing that pops into her head, so I've been second guessing my choice ever since.

“Great! Just this way,” Keelan motions further down the hall.

“Are all these rooms occupied?” I ask.

“Nah. The two youngest share that room you saw. This is the teenager,” Keelan says, pointing to a door with a makeshift keep out sign. “This is Hicks, and this is you. I’m on the other side of the house if you ever need anything.”

I cough on my own saliva because why in the world would I ever need anything from Keelan that I couldn’t just ask Joshua for?

Joshua seems to pick up on it, too.”Keelan likes to make sure everyone feels at home,” he says, answering my puzzled look.

“Mi casa, es su casa,” Keelan says, opening the door to my room. He steps aside to let me through.

I take in the big bed with the fluffy white comforter and big bright windows with a backyard view. There’s a beautiful abstract painting of an astronaut with splashes of colors. An homage to the Space city, no doubt.

“You’ve got your own bathroom and walk-in closet,” Keelan steps in and turns on the lights.

Joshua hesitates at the door.

“I’m sure you met Julia, the housekeeper. Sean will be in later to cook. And if you need anything, we have a house manager, Indira.”

“A house manager?” I ask, turning to him.

“Yeah, she takes care of all staff and anything estate related. She’s married to Sean, so they sometimes ride together.”

“Wow, you’ve got quite the crew here.”

Keelan shrugs. “We travel a lot so… kinda need the extra hands.”

“Welp,” Joshua gives the door frame two knocks. “We’ll let you get settled. Feel free to join us for lunch and I’ll give you a rundown of all the expectations.” He flashes Keelan a look that I can't quite read.

I nod and wave at them.

“It’s nice to meet you, Cassidy,” Keelan shoots me a wink. The same way that Joshua had earlier, and I flush.

Why are Heatwave guys such massive flirts?

Joshua gives him a light shove when he exits and shuts the door behind him.

I lay back on my bed and stare up at the ceiling fan that’s lazily whirling.

This is going to be great.

Chapter 4

Joshua

“This is bullshit.” Cole stands next to my car, headphones shoved behind his ear, and jeans too baggy for his own good.

He must enjoy tripping over his own pants.
