“About growing a child?”
“About being a parent.”
“Are you?”
I shrug. “I’ve seen it done really well and I’ve seen it done really bad.”
“Me too,” she says.
“Kesley’s parents were… are… parenting goals. Couple goals, really?”
“They love you.”
“Sometimes I wonder why? I was just the sad, lonely girl who befriended one of their daughters.”
“I know exactly why. I would never question why someone would love you.”
A whisper of a smile shows up on her face, only to leave right away.
“You don’t believe that?”
“I want to believe that,” she admits, rolling off of me and stretching her arms above her head.
I turn on my side. My hand gliding up and down her midsection.
“I’ll keep telling you until you do.”
I kiss her belly again.
She lifts my chin up to meet her eyes. “Do you think we’re moving too fast?”
“Do you?”
She shakes her head. “It feels right. I just worry about what other’s might think.”
“I’ve never cared what they think, Libby. I only kept you a secret because that’s what you wanted. I would’ve shouted it from the highest building the first chance I got if you would’ve let me.”
“Somehow I believe that.”
“Good.” I say, resting my head near her hips and watching her breathe until it lulls me to sleep.
I really hope this isn’t just a dream, that I’ll wake up tomorrow and she won’t be next to me.
I hope this is real.
Chapter 30
Libby
“Iswear if that woman says one bad thing to you, I’m crashing that wedding,” Kesley says over the bluetooth speaker in my car.
“She can go suck lemons,” I say to Kesley.
“She already looks like she does. That’s just the natural state of her face.”
I laugh a little too loud.
“Okay, okay. I’ll call you as soon as it’s all over and let you know how it went.”
