Keelan skates towards me. "Head in the game, B."
"Lucky shot, I'll get it next time. Hey, what's your sister doing here?"
He follows my line of sight to the seats.
"Huh, I guess she's taking my advice."
"What was that?"
He pulls his helmet down, "To apply for a job."
"Here?"
He skates around the net, "Yeah, man. That way, I can keep her close. It'll be great." He leaves and returns back to center ice. "Let's go, Heatwave!"
I look back up to Izzy, and her gaze meets mine before she quickly returns her focus back to Rina. Another puck flies by me and into the net, drawing my attention back to the ice. The guys on my side groan.
Yeah, that'll be just great.
Chapter 5
Izzy
Rina Lopez. The Rina Lopez is interviewing me.
She's well known in the sports world, which is why she's been hired on as the new Heatwave PR rep this season. She's earned her reputation across different leagues as the PR miracle worker.
"So what happened to Bobby?" I inquired about the last PR rep.
She laughs as she pulls her seat out and motions for me to sit in front of her desk.
"Let's just say he couldn't handle the heat." She winks. "You sure you're ready for professional sports? Don't get me wrong, your portfolio is impressive."
Wow. The fact that a legend like Rina thinks my photography is impressive, I could die happy right here, right now. I nod and smile, just speechless.
"I only ask because the hours are pretty demanding. And you'd have to travel with the team."
"I already live with half of them," I say with a chuckle.
She looks at me like something is coming out of my ears.
"I mean, I live with Keelan for the time being, and some of the guys are rooming there too."
"Oh, well, if all works out, we'll definitely be able to cover your accommodations."
I sit up straighter. Is she serious? A paid gig with guaranteed work and a place to live included? I owe Keelan big time.
"Look, Ms. Landry. I like you. I want to change things in the marketing department, and you're just the kind of fresh eyes I think this team needs. I want to bring you on for a 30-day trial. Come to all the games and practices. Home and away. And if, after a month, it works out. We'll bring you on full-time. How does that sound?"
How does that sound?
That sounds like a dream come true.
I try to keep my excitement at bay and respond with, "I think we can make that work."
"Great! You start tomorrow."
She stands and reaches for me to shake my hand. I smile and extend my hand to her.
