I needed her to know that she’d run into the very arms of the man who had frightened her.
“You won’t make it to the front door,” I promised her.
I was a sick fuck.
Kait shivered, and I loved the sight of the goose bumps that flared to life on her arms. It made me think those goose bumps covered the rest of her body that was currently enveloped by my shirt.
I leaned against the desk, tossed one long leg over the other with my arms crossed in front of me. I bit away the smile that threatened to spread over my lips as her eyes moved to my arms. My ladybug didn’t hide her appreciation for my body.
“You run, and I’ll catch you. Cuff you to this very bed.” Part of me hoped she would try to run.
I liked the idea of chasing her through the house, catching and claiming her. It was fucking primitive, but it was honest. The idea of bringing her back into the room where I’d lusted after her for so long made me turn harder. I wanted to play and tease her body until she couldn’t remember her own name.
“You wouldn’t,” she whispered. Those dark eyes of hers were killing me. Wide and doe-eyed behind those dark frames.
“I would.” I smirked. “I’d catch you. Tie you to the bed and convince you to stay with me.” I meant it, too.
Because there was no other option.
Maybe before I’d kissed her, I would have been able to stay just friends? Keep up the charade and stay benched as some other asshole took my place in her life. Maybe once upon a time, before I’d installed those cameras that gave me full access to her, letting me watch things I had only imagined?
But not now.
“You think that’s possible. After all this?” I had to give it to her. She was so fucking strong. Her voice didn’t tremble, and her hand didn’t shake as she pointed at the bedroom walls.
“You don’t think so?” I asked.
I felt like a wild, feral animal. A jungle cat about to pounce and claim what was rightfully mine. I breathed in, and her scent flooded my lungs. Not the one I usually sprayed in here with her perfume, but her. Kait’s skin and body. And fuck me, she smelled good. Like a mix of the two of us. My mouth started to water.
Oh yeah, I wanted to play a little chase and catch.
“Run,” I dared. She watched me for a split second before she took a small step closer to the door.
But I stayed still.
I didn’t move.
Fuck, I didn’t even dare blink.
Let her think she had a chance, and when she went for it, turning to run out, I was on her. I moved fast. My arms wrapped around her waist before she could step out into the hallway, and after I carried her back inside, I kicked the door shut.
I also turned the lights off.
She needed to see me.
Feel me.
The real me.
No matter how dark it was.
My sweet little ladybug tried to kick, but I didn’t let go of her. With one arm around her waist, I covered her mouth with my free hand.
“Shh,” I hushed at the side of her face. “None of that, bug.” She argued against my hand, but I couldn’t make out the muffled noises. “Now you gotta listen to me,” I whispered. “You’re mine. I’m yours. That hasn’t changed,” she argued again, and it was fucking adorable.
The muffled noises she continued to make had me reaching for the lights again, and when she turned to look at me, she was scowling.
“You ready to listen?” Her face didn’t change, so I skimmed my nose against the side of her face. “You’re mine, and I’m yours. I never hid the fact I was gone for you once we started this,” I whispered hoarsely before my hand dropped from her mouth.
