“Why?” I couldn’t believe what he’d just said.

“Because you’re more important.” There was something poignant about the way he stared into my eyes. “I fucked up, Kaitlyn.” His voice dropped. “Wasted so much goddamn time waiting…” He breathed in deeply.

He leaned in closer, pressing his forehead against mine. I loved when Red did this. Like he couldn’t get close enough and needed to share everything, including the same oxygen we breathed.

“If you don’t care about being with a math teacher with a bum knee, I could be anywhere.”

“You can’t leave the school! Coaching at a division one school?—"

“Isn’t the be all, end all,” he cut me off. “You are,” he said like a crazy person, but I believed him. Completely.

“You love your job,” I whispered. His lips tipped up, and there was so much love reflecting in my direction, my eyes started to turn glassy.

“I love you more.” The steadiness in his voice made my heart flip inside out. These weren’t sweet words to get his way. He meant them. Completely.

“I’d move here,” I blurted out.

“Bug, we don’t have to decide—" I shook my head, pressing my fingers against his lips.

“I know. I know you would never make me leave Beech Grove, but I only went there after we graduated because that’s where you were going and it was home, but after… Red, Beech Grove was home because you were there.”

“Fuck,” he cursed.

“I’m serious. I mean, I love it there. It’s been home for a long time. But if we’re talking seriously?—"

“We are,” he growled, and I shivered, dropping my fingers.

“Then I’ll start looking at what’s available here and put in my notice at work.” It was the easiest decision I’d ever made, since falling in love had been out of my hands. That had just happened.

“Just like that?” His blue eyes searched mine. “You would do that for me?”

I noticed a lot of things all at once. His breathing was off, coming in and out in almost choppy pants. His chest rose and fell heavily, like it did when he went on a run. His nose flared as he breathed in deeply, and I knew he was breathing me in. It dumbfounded me. How he could react to me in such a heady, visceral way.

I felt powerful and sexy. Like a goddess.

“I’d do anything for you,” I whispered and meant it. I would cross the gates of hell if he asked.

“You would, wouldn’t you?” His eyes darkened as I nodded. “You’d do anything I asked, too, wouldn’t you?”

“Red—” The air changed around us.

“Wouldn’t you?” he pressed, tipping my head up with the pad of his fingers.

“Yes.” There was something in his gaze that made my heart start to thunder in my ears.

“Your heart?”

“You already have it.”

“You’d give me babies and have a family with me, wouldn’t you, bug?”

“Yes,” I hissed and swallowed. I squirmed on top of the kitchen counter as a heavy pulsing started to come to life between my legs.

Throughout the week, I got glimpses of this side of Red, but I had known it was just a taste. He was intense and dominant. Always had been. But this was new. This was me finally feeling like I was about to have all of him.

“Get on your knees, ladybug,” he gritted through his teeth, His hand dropped from my face as he stepped back. I shivered, not because of where this was going, but because I missed his body heat. The man was like a furnace and made me feel cozy when I was around him.

“Kaitlyn.” He said my name like a warning, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Hop down and get on your knees for me. I need your mouth.” I whimpered.
